So you want people to vote yes, that the Council should sell the Shay, but think the best solution would be to see the Council lease it out?
It is pointless the Council leasing out the stadium because if the stadium management company goes tits up it will be back in the hands of the Council. Plus any external organisation would be adding another middle man wanting a cut of profits. The Council would want its rent for being land owner, the management company would want its cut, meaning costs would go up and potentially the clubs' rent.
Keeping it under the Council's control would be the best way, riding out the recession (£100k is pennies to the local authority) and then be creative in what they do with the available office space, etc. Blimey, if they want to be boring then why not just move certain Council offices into the space and then everyone's a winner.
Yer okay the vote was to sell and yer I say to lease it would be best BUT the point I am making is Council run means they will not invest any more money into the Shay in future, we have had what we will get now. Innovation and Councils do not go hand in hand, especially Calderdale!
Under Council control we are at the mercy of Councillors and we know what most of them think don't we?
Nah a not for profit Stadium Company with a good management team and say a 'Steering Group' to keep a watching brief would work imo.
The point being if the stadium was all under a Stadium Company and one management structure they could chose what they charge for things (not like now with EMC) and reinvest any profits made into the stadium and not have to give it to the Council central pot, like what happens with the Borough Market which makes money but never sees a penny back being spent on it, thats why its now in a bad state.
Under Council control you get jobsworths running things and you also have to go to committes galore to do anything major.
