I doubt many would leave Halifax unless a SL contract was offered to them. As for Championship clubs we have no idea what the League will be and what clubs can offer as nobody has a clue how many home games etc. As for the various clubs

BARROW are in all sorts of problems and they wont be busting the Cap again and if rumours are true will be shedding players. The average crowd in 2010 was 1717 and now have fallen to 1543 so again not having that much money coming in as previous years may hurt them more than expected. Also players dont want to be trekking up their for training.

LEIGH have money problems and the future is still unclear. They will have lost Ellis and Hill which would free up some cash though. Crowds have improved from last years 2144 to 2397 but even still that has not helped them that much money wise. They may try and go for Penky and think that would be the only place he would leave us for.

FEV Probably spending near the limit and Cockayne wont be cheap. Cant see too many changes happening with the team. Their crowds have dropped from an average 1919 to just 1589 as well meaning a big drop in money coming in. They have already Finn, Kain, Dickins, Grayshon and others for next year

BATLEY & SHEFFIELD maybe could be in the market for new players but there crowd averages are around 1200 mark so not sure that either are spending the full cap

FAX a big drop in gates so far from 2509 to just 2097 but likely a good cup run helped make some money for the club. I would expect some changes with Smith & Larder retiring and hopefully a few released. I do believe Penky will stay with us. He is 30 next year and dont think he will go to SL and doubt he will go elsewhere. I also think the players would rather be at Fax than want to go elsewhere because of the recent history of us getting to a number of finals and we are stable off the field financially. I am not too concerned and know the BOD have done a great job in hard circumstances. I think that will influence people to stay as well.

Spot on that, true as we don't know what clubs will do next year but with the Franchise fiasco I cannot see many having much money to spend other than maybe Fev - who is the guy putting the money in there?
Realistically only Leigh and Fev pose a threat regards being an attraction for players to go to, but would any of our lads ever want to go to Fev??? As for Leigh where would they get the money from???
I think other than a SL club and how many of our lads are good enough to play in SL? Halifax is the best place to be at in our league as we still have something to play for = a tick in the box if we do not get to the GF this year plus we have a good set up with ground, fanbase and new training facikities at the College. imo

No idea, but he posted a tweet a couple weeks back that seemed to indicate he was looking around. And then yesterday he tweeted feeling like he was on the 'cattle market'..

Could be nothing, but still.

Re: Player Contracts : Tue Aug 02, 2011 10:31 am
The club have a couple of things they need to do:

1. Inform the coaches about what they can expect for next season. As the coaches can't wait until next season to look for jobs if the club know now that they won't be keeping them. It would be unfair to them for all the work they have put in. Especially if rumours are true and Karl is being earmarked for the role. He'll want a lot of his own men in with him.

2. Inform the players of what they can expect for the remainder of this season and expectations for next season as soon as they know it.

At the moment the players and coaches are completely in the dark about what has gone on and what is to happen. From a conversation I had at the weekend the players are hearing different things regarding the exit of the coach and know nothing about the future path of the team. Many of them were close to Calland and this is something the club need to deal with, even if it is to put the players minds at ease.

We'll still be a top team - the one every one wants to beat or play for.

And we'll have a better coach and a great BOD.

Sorted, no worries

I am worried that the handling of the MC issue has had a bigger effect than most of us realise. Quite a few of the players were close to MC and followed his lead on pay cuts for this year. From what I have heard, they are not too impressed by the BoD's actions and there may have to be a fair bit of bridge building with a number of them - some very key players.

The further risk is we wait for a new coach so he can decide on who he wants etc. But if that’s to be at the end of the season, potentially players will already sign elsewhere. At the end of the day they have themselves/families to look after.

i agree with alot of these posts suggesting that Fax is a big attraction, but we have a quality squad at the minute, and i can see alot of them jumping ship because of Callands departure. i hope im wrong!

the club need to be transparent with everybody involved to secure we have a top team next year.

Rob worrincy will be off, mark my words.

With respect to most other championship clubs i cant see many players getting better offers elsewhere. If some of our players get offered SL as some Leigh lads have then good luck to them but i think for the most part our players who are in a position to be offered a new contract might well accept it. Also i would expect that at least 6 players and maybe more will either be released or will retire to accomodate the players that the new coach intends to bring in. Im quite optimistic for next season TBH.
