Mate a lot of clubs have a lot of imports because the youth are not good enough.I think 2 is good considering a new Superleague club.In the 31 squad we have about 7 youth players.

Don't talk ridiculous !!! Youth needs nurturing & developing, most imports are failures from where they've come from, sacked or looking at a big last payday. How the hell can clubs develop youth at 18's & 20's when the RFL & SL clubs themselves keep changing the goalposts ?

Lee Greenwood for example has played at least five 16 year olds in his Siddal conference side prior to christmas, lads who I can assure you have all been released at 16 year old from SL clubs some of them having been messed around & offered paltry pay as you play terms, but not being allowed to play amateur or junior in the meantime. I know this for fact, I scouted them/reccomended them to Halifax after they all came through our service area system from under 12's, all of these lads I've watched since they were 6, 7, 8 year olds. Halifax took them as 14 year olds, had them for a couple of seasons then the RFL pulled the plug & all the SL clubs came swooping like vultures, some of which had been into these kids for a good season promising my boys & their families the earth & delivering absolutely nothing but lies and false hopes. Credit to Halifax RLFC, their board backing the faith in Martin Gonzo's vision, Karl Harrison & Lee Greenwood for rescuing lads from the scrapheap from which they'd been thrown onto. This is all true & factual statement from me, only time will tell where these lads end up, but let's just say I have faith in both the lads themseleves & the club they're back playing for, and congratulations to the lads who debuted last week in the friendly, they won't be the last of the bunch.

Andy, my original post was slightly tongue in cheek, in response to the numerous declarations of how Widnes were ' concentrating ' on their youth to the detriment of the 1st team for the last 2 seasons in the Championship, it was rubbish, Widnes were trying as hard as ever to be sucessful at 1 st team level

It is essentially impossible for any clubs outside SL to develop any realistic SL quality youth development, how many has Widnes produced in the last 10 years? , Leigh have produced how many? 3/4

RL is a results based industry, having 4/5 juniors in a bottom of SL team will not save Denis Betts job, the RFL are wrong to put the value on it that they do, the only aim for Championship clubs should be to build themselves financially , and increase revenue streams that will allow them to survive and potentially challenge the clubs in SL

Moving into SL and being able to spend at the full SC is a lot more important than having 3 or 4 juniors just for the sake of it

widnes are, and have been cr@p at 1st team level for nearly as long as i can remember. i hope you dont have to use 'yoof' this year otherwise u'll finish bottom holding hands with Salford. Craven is quality! but it wont be long until wigan/wire snap him up. thus is SL.

Not at all as their is a salary cap and Ste OCONNOR won't stop till we are near the top.Just seems Fax and Leigh are envious.Sponsorship and owners have a lot of control just like football. Enjoy the Championship and stop mentioning Widnes as boring now.
