If it was buying/taking the lease on the shay I'm sure councillors would have made comment. That Raistrick bloke hates sending money that way. And it'd have to be mentioned in the council meetings which are publically documented I think

If it is an opportunity to buy shares in the club this may look as though the club is strapped for cash by some observers. I'm not sure either if this offer would bear much fruit seeing as though we're down to only a hardcore of 1,500 fans who are sitting in the middle of a recession.

Whatever it is - let's hope the night ends positively. At a time when RL stands on the edge of a gravelly forked road I don't think many of those 1,500 could stomach more turmoil.

RL is in rude health, attendances up, no clubs struggling financially, all to play for in SL, TV deal to match comparable sports, the vibrant championship producing clubs able to step up to SL and the World Cup final such a sell out tickets are going on the black market for an eye watering £2!

Plus, we have Wood, Hetherington and the boys running the show, not a gravel path but a yellow brick road!

No it wasn't old Geoff and is not a hint at negative stuff or putting out a rumour.
The BOD of Fax are an team of outstanding individuals without whom we would have no club and do not have to be given a chance, their integrity is unquestionable.
Anything announced by the club must be important and it's only reasonable to hope it is good news or really really good news.

Something about trying to negotiate contracts but because crowds are down it looks like players will have to take a pay cut and most obviously wont be happy. It will be the same for most clubs in this division as crowds struggle to rise after the restructuring.

Correct. GFB. In the Leaguer KH was commenting on the situation which included most of the above.
The way the article started "Fax ask stars to take pay cut" and some other "to the point" wording could have been considered negative if taken out of context so I didn't quote it.

The thread starter just asked "what could the surprise be about".

Lets face it we are all guessing.

I just took a wild guess with this being in the press there could have been a comment from the club to balance the scales so to speak that they were working hard to sign up the players who will be coming out of contract and the good news is inspite of difficult times rest assured Fax will remain at the top of their game with a competative side on the field etc etc.

Very unlikely that it has anything to do with this but it had been printed, the head coach was involved and it could be an issue but no doubt the guys at the helm will sort it out in due course.

There's a lot of speculation on this thread. About (probably) 2 separate issues.

1st been the "secret" and the 2nd the article in the paper.

I'm as guilty as any for speculating. But I still don't think if it was anything that could be considered bad news there'd be this big build up.

There's plenty of good things gone on at Halifax in the past couple of years. Lets just hope this announcement is something that will take us on the next step. We always hear about Fev building for the future, and with the possible and likely league restructure after next season some changes will need to be made. Widnes made a big thing of "ticking the box". While we have already done that. It might not be a requirement this time around. But there are other things that will have to be done and put in place if we were to enter a second tier super league in 18 months time
