The one consistant reason given to me for Fax fans stopping going down The Shay is no P & R. People even laugh about it and dismiss the game out of hand. Some of these people used to be staunch RL fans. Although it appears the loonies running the game have finally seen the error of their ways some ex fans may be lost for ever. Let's hope it's not all of them.
Absolutely. The game's ruined by Wavy Mavis supporters who demand success. Somebody has to finish near the bottom.
The game has been ruined by the RFL and greedy self interest by clubs at all levels, especially SL. Lack of anything to get interested in and lack of media coverage is killing the game, no P&R is one of the biggest roots of evil. One other reason is summer rugby as its hard to not miss games when the sun is blazing and its summer holiday time, its not easy for blokes to get approval when there are lots of other things to do with the wife and kids!
The constant messing around when the games are being played doesn't help either. Most people like some sort of order or routine in life.
Games were generally played on the Sunday afternoons and you would move heaven and earth not to miss a game.
Now it can be Thursday night. Friday night. Saturday, Sunday often at short notice with no pattern to it.
There you go Mr rugby league supporter plan your schedule round that with all the other commitments you have these days.
You can't so.
You miss a few games and it hurts. You miss a few more and it doesn't hurt as much. A few more, a few more ............................................................ and it doesn't hurt as at all especially when you have taken a step back and can see how the game has been run.
Charlie will obviously be attending the NRC Final at the Shay , but here is a serious question , what do you do in Fax at the week-ends ?Im not sure if im coming for the week-end or just the day , do you have a Circus ?How far is the Shay from the Beach ?And how big is the Fax Tower ?I may try to book a couple of rooms at Halifaxjohns abode . ,or Swiftys Hotel .
Agree with whats' been posted. I remember going to see Unaga and Tuilagi making their debuts in a second team game at thrum hall and there were more fans there than what we get for some first team games now . P & R is the main reason for dwindling crowds , summer rugby is also a factor while economic factors are also contributing to people not attending . Giants only got 7k for their meeting with Leeds and only 2k were at London yesterday . Problems abound I'm afraid

In reply to your questions
Circus - We have a football team that plays at the Shay
Beach - there's a big sandpit for the kids at Eureka science museum. Also, late in the footy season, they turn the Shay into a sandpit with the amount of sand the groundsmen put on it.
Tower - We have a lovely brick one called Wainhouse Tower that is open on selected weekends throughout the year for you to view the marvellous scenery that Halifax has to offer.
There are also several eateries and hostelries willing to part you all of your hard earned benefits and wonga loans. If you want to stay the weekend, there are a good selection of hotels ranging from the inexpensive to the downright cheap!

Charlie, we are 60 miles away from the beach and the Tower. Wainhouse Tower is just outside Town, far more impressive than Blackpool Tower. Also every day is a beach in Halifax.
As for staying at Halifaxjohn Towers you would be more than welcome, we have 6 bedrooms, one for Mrs Halifaxjohn and myself, one for you and the entire Sheffield support have booked the other four. Yours will be free as a courtesy, Sheffield DSS are paying for the other four. Mrs Halifaxjohn is reading up on her recipe book, lobby, hot pot etc. for you and hopefully humble pie and sour grapes for the seagulls. Cutlery for you will be provided, but not for the Seagulls, no need providing things they don't know how to use.
I don't see why everyone can't enjoy the day just like we all do in Blackpool, breakfast at Wetherspoon (cue the Seagull idiot who sarcastically once said "You do know how to live") A few pints there, and then on to Dirty Dicks, The Pump Room, Ring O Bells, 3 Pigeons and then finish in the South Stand Bar. A few there after the game and then a few in The Railway, next to the Station for Leigh lads and next to the Taxi rank for the Seagulls. How is that any better than Blackpool, O'h and a nice ground and as you know Charlie probably the friendliest supporters in the League. I sincerely hope our Fev fans will meet us in the 3 pigeons, Fev grinder, Rotherham Fax fan? Have a great day, I will.

Sheffield have few fans-whats that got to do with Fax? For me its sad to see.
Fax drop in crowds goes all the way back to the start of SL and Nigel Wood running our club. The way the club has been run for over 25 years has simply been shambolic for most of it regarding communication and working with its assets (Fans and Sponsors) He alienated a number of fans and sponsors with his attitude and refused to listen. Who was the muppet that thought up and pushed through "Blue Sox"? Which Muppet as CEO managed to run up a big debt that saw Fax forced more or less to sell Thrum Hall and saw us move down the Shay? Which Muppet couldnt be bothered to communicate with the fans and sponsors properly which saw a number walk away, vowing never to return to watching Fax? yes Nigel Wood.
SL going to summer didnt help, but the way the club was run, was the start that saw Fax struggle for crowds thats still affecting us now. As Linda Kitson mentioned the club has been really poor in the past 15 years in getting back to a community club. It has done sparodic ideas, but not enough. Frank Watene has done a good job. But it needed more than just schools work. The club for me has to get players on a Saturday out in to Halifax, Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge and promoting the club. It has to keep improving the relationship between all the amateur clubs especially the Junior age groups. None of thats going to be easy.
Having little money playing in a comp that not even the RFL care about with no hope of entering SL in its current function doesnt help. Having the Scholarship system ripped apart by Barrie John Mather from the RFL didnt help. And the club has rightly to a degree for much of the past 10 years trying to focus on getting itself rid of debt and creating a stable platform. The Club much like the game is at a crossroads for me. The next few years will decide if the Club/Game survives or ends up dieing a slow death pretending to be something it is not. The club has a tough future a head of it, but it has to do the hard yards to be a more community based club or else it will struggle to survive. Thats how I see it.
