My lad plays for King Cross Park U9's. After a great couple of years of cat and mouse rugby the boys are now starting to value their team mates and passing the ball around rather than just heading for the line ‘taking it in turns’. This season his coach has introduced two basic 'moves' to try and promote more structure to their game. Anyone who has watched Fax this season will recognise them as a ‘drop off’ and an ‘booty ball’. The boys have practised and practised all season and these moves look good at U9.
I don’t think I have seen anything different in a Fax team all season. The first 3 tackles (sometimes 4) are a drop off or an booty every single set. Imagination is poor, our defensive strength that saw us win at Sheff has let us down tonight, and the brand of rugby is clearly not promoting bums on seats with a 1300 semi final.
Under Calland, the pressure we had in the first 20 minutes tonight we would have been 20 up. Who knows what would have happened then, we could well have lost 40 but tonight was like watching Steve McLaren's England football team. The staff have done a fantastic job of promoting the game all week, and again, the game plan and execution have let us down. Our crowd has been a long time low tonight. Unfortunately I think it will be even lower next year.
I love Fax and I love Rhino. However I think we need to recruit a little known, energetic, enthusiastic Aussie who understands RL. Seem to remember it worked once before?
