At Leigh, we had a group of supporters helping out the old BOD, on a voluntary basis. Whilst a lot of good work was being done, mainly to attempt to avert a financial crisis, we were, at best, merely treading water. There was no sign of any forward movement.Just over a year ago, our current BOD (they prefer to call themselves a Board of Management) got together to move the club forwards. They all committed to significant financial involvement, over a number of seasons, as well as devoting their considerable business acumen and time, to the cause of resurrecting our club, with the ultimate aim of being a successful SL club.
This season has been a spectacular success, but the job has just started. There is a long, long way to go, to achieve the ultimate goal.
Whilst the involvement of willing volunteers did much to move our club away from the brink of disaster, and formed part of the foundations of what is currently being achieved, I'm afraid investment (£££, expertise and time) by a group of local business men, is probably the best (only?) way forward. We've tried the single owner approach, and, whilst the guy was wonderful, and well meaning, that regime was probably the reason we were in the mire, a couple of years ago.
Anyway, the group approach certainly seems to be working at the moment at Leigh. Surely, it can also be done at a proud club such as Halifax?
