Substantial amount, Smith is keen on getting all his coaching staff singing from the same hymn sheet and makes sure they are all actively involved. Our academy has been top 3 for a few years now and a lot of the lads that made the transition through the academy would have played a style that both Smith and Marshall would have come up with on general consensus.
RM was always in the dugout sat with TS on game day each would have fed off each other, especially with RM having a better understanding of the younger players.

OK, thanks for that insight. I have to say, and I'm sure most Fax fans would agree that since he came our game has improved massively even though a lot of the players remained the same as we had, or were brought in, under KH.

Will be interesting to see how we go this season when he has had a full pre-season.

I would suspect that, if you were to ask Paul Rowley, he would rate Richard Marshall, extremely highly.

Thanks for that Alan, I think that is an important point.
Most of us "sensible" Fax supporters recognise Paul as a great player for us and a very good coach, however in my very humble opinion Richard just shades it for the points I have mentioned previously on this topic.

Some of you are never happy. Give the guy a break, he and his team worked hard last year and got the rewards for their endevers.
Support him and the squad, let's have no negativity on our forum we will get plenty from the others.

The simple fact is we did not have the money this season to go full time and to be fair it would have meant most of our players leaving just like it has done at Sheffield and they will have an indifferent season imo because of it. Added to that another fact whether people like it or not we are light years behind Bradford and Leigh in terms of set up and that is a process that wont be done over night and could take a number of years. What we do have though is a squad that should comfortably get in to the top 4 again and could put pressure on Bradford for 2nd place and once again take a shot at the Sl teams. Again realistically if we had gone FT there is a very good chance we might not even make the top 4 given the huge turnaround in players that would be needed.

Marshall has been like a breath of fresh air through the club and could be the man to set in motion us getting to the point of going back full time and maybe, a good few years down the line, giving us another shot at SL.

Think he has done several times in various pre-match interviews. Marshall is undoubtedly a good coach but I'd still rather have Rowley. Compared to Karl Harrison it's not that hard to be a good coach. I expect both Rowley and Marshall will make it as top half Super League coaches one day though.

I really cant say if I rate Rowley or not. When Leigh had no money to spend he struggled as you would expect and most Leigh fans were calling for his head and since then when he has had more money to spend than everyone else he has done what is expected and probably what most coaches could have achieved. When the going got tough at the back end of last season he did not seem to have any answers. It will be interesting to see how he goes in the middle 8's next season when its likely he has a squad very comparable to the SL teams he will be up against. Failure again and a lot of questions will be asked.
