The tail cannot wag the dog, we tried the Franchise system and did away with promotion and relegation, but found it boring and fans wanted P and R brought back,at the moment the middle 8s is the only hope we as Championship Clubs have to get into SL , and even that is a long shot, at the moment my club Leigh are top of the League but I feel the bottom 4 Clubs in SL would beat us with ease.
Marwan is only concerned about Salford or if you like Marwan,he came into RL expecting great things but the RFL have in his opinion stopped him from achieving his dream,he is a bitter man towards the RFL and is looking for allies to support him,I agree most SL Chairmen are only concerned about their own Club, but I think common sense will prevail and I can't see a revolution happening, where the SL Clubs reject the RFL, there is cause for concern , but I can't see Marwan getting his way.
I do hope you are right, but we are at a point when the finances of clubs are so poor that I fear there could be a knee jerk. Marwan has spent a fortune and I suspect he is used to getting value for his money or at least what he believes it should be.
He can afford to abolish the Cap, but few others can even afford the present level. The game is in a real mess.
The big problem we have is that turkeys don't vote for Christmas. P&r is great for those on the outside but not for those already troughing at the top table, SL chairman probably won't want it but without it you will restrict the flow of new money into the game, Degsy has worked hard to progress Leigh but would he still spend his money if there were no way into SL?. We need a more open P&R to invite money into the game, at one time if you dropped out there was light at the end of the tunnel, I'm not sure they've seen much light at Odsal so whilst I do not advocate a break from the RFL there needs to be some sort of change, even if it's only getting rid of Wood.

The problem is though Ian, the RFL big wigs will also put their own interests first and they won't compromise their comfort zone for clubs outside SL if push comes to shove.
We could fill a book full of the examples from over the last few years where this administration have shown little or no regard for the clubs and supporters of everything outside SL.
Marwan and similar like minded individuals may not get everything their way but may well get further compromises from the RFL to appease them, this will be literally at the expense of the usual whipping boys outside SL.
Oh the irony the guy who the Fat Controller brought into the game to be the saviour of Salford is now biting him on his big fat backside, how funny is that? This is all about a spoilt money man who is used to getting his own way because he can through his money trying to get his own back on the RFL for them actually standing up to him which for once I take the RFL's side! If the SL clubs do go solo then it will be the end of RL as we know it and could spell the end of the game outside SL as where will all the Sky money go then? To the SL clubs of course leaving scraps to the rest of us. I hope this does not happen but I do not trust SL Chairmen who are totally selfish so they might, just might go with Moneybags and kill us off.
If they did break away wouldn't they lose all the funding the RFL provide. Is the SKY contract with the rfl and not the Superleague clubs, or have I got that wrong. If they did maybe the RFL would start throwing money at our two leagues. (MAYBE NOT)
Super League (Europe) Ltd is an independent company owned by the Super League Clubs, but with the directors being RFL (Barwick/Wood).
When a team enters or leaves the league a share is passed between them so the 12 clubs own a share each, there is one special rights Preference share owned by the RFL. (this share requires the holder, the RFL, to agree to any structural changes.)
Red Hall administer the company and all funds for sponsorship etc are passed through it. I would suspect, but don't know, that all sponsorship deals are with this company, but are dependent upon the teams competing in the RFL SL.
So legally it would look a simple task for them to break away, although they would probably need to form a new company, The RFL could not stop player movement to SL from outside as this would be a restraint of trade. They could invite other clubs to join, or expel who they wish based upon votes at meetings. They would need to renegotiate sponsorship/sky etc. Nothing here looks difficult.
So the only thing stopping a breakaway is the SL clubs believing they are better off in the RFL with P/R and all the other "benefits" than outside.

He got his way with the marquee player eventually Charlie..
Very true Atomic , but how many SL Clubs have since signed Marquee players?
Under the terms of the salary cap rule amendment, clubs are entitled to have one marquee player who has a notional value on their salary cap register of either £100,000 if club trained or £175,000 if non-club trained.
So each club can use this rule for one player who receives a salary that exceeds this in the annual calculation. So club doesn't have to declare "marquee" publicly. I assume some clubs have at least one player that fits this salary bill, but suspect Some will not. For instance Sam Tompkins would be "club trained".
Also worth keeping in mind most Antipedeans, who the higher number would appeal to, were already contracted before rule change, so may well see some "names" announced for 2017 in next months.
Marwan thinks the SL Chairmen will back him and his plans , I don't simply because most Chairmen are happy with the RFL and the way they run things, the RFL re always ready to listen to new ideas, but I feel by publicly criticising them ,Marwan is alienating himself with the establishment.Marwan has big plans and ideas for Salford but most won't work, because Salford will never be able to attract the crowds he wants. It's the same with his Racehorses , he has a couple of decent Handicappers but will never own a Classic winner,I think when he realises the majority of Chairmen won't back him , he will look for another subject to rant about ,or take his ball home.
