Charlie, we are 60 miles away from the beach and the Tower.
Wainhouse Tower is just outside Town, far more impressive than Blackpool Tower. Also every day is a beach in Halifax.

As for staying at Halifaxjohn Towers you would be more than welcome, we have 6 bedrooms, one for Mrs Halifaxjohn and myself, one for you and the entire Sheffield support have booked the other four.
Yours will be free as a courtesy, Sheffield DSS are paying for the other four.
Mrs Halifaxjohn is reading up on her recipe book, lobby, hot pot etc. for you and hopefully humble pie and sour grapes for the seagulls. Cutlery for you will be provided, but not for the Seagulls, no need providing things they don't know how to use.

I don't see why everyone can't enjoy the day just like we all do in Blackpool, breakfast at Wetherspoon (cue the Seagull idiot who sarcastically once said "You do know how to live")
A few pints there, and then on to Dirty Dicks, The Pump Room, Ring O Bells, 3 Pigeons and then finish in the South Stand Bar.
A few there after the game and then a few in The Railway, next to the Station for Leigh lads and next to the Taxi rank for the Seagulls.
How is that any better than Blackpool, O'h and a nice ground and as you know Charlie probably the friendliest supporters in the League.
I sincerely hope our Fev fans will meet us in the 3 pigeons, Fev grinder, Rotherham Fax fan?
Have a great day, I will.

John , thank you so much for your insiders Guide to a week-end in Fax , you rival Judith Chalmers  and will be presenting Wish You Where Here from Fax next .As for myself , I NEVER eat Lobby , much to Bland for my digestive System . I prefer a good bowl of Minestrone for starters , followed by Spaghetti and Meatballs , and im one of the Napoli Carolis , I like a nice Neapolitan Ice Cream , like Mama used to make .I hope my room is overlooking the Sea ?And not to near Griff and ESO , as you know what noise seagulls make at night   .
As for the Pub guide , Charlie is a teetotal clown , my middle name is Peroni , but I don't drink the stuff , I will however be in the 3 Pigeons prior to the game hoping to meet Bentleyman , and other Fax intelectuals , although ive been told Littlerich doesn't attend games at the Shay now , he is apparently selling pegs in nearby Hebdon Bridge , anyway I hope my room is well aired and warm , thanks in advance .Charles Eusabio Peroni Caroli .

Agree with whats' been posted. I remember going to see Unaga and Tuilagi making their debuts in a second team game at thrum hall and there were more fans there than what we get for some first team games now . P & R is the main reason for dwindling crowds , summer rugby is also a factor while economic factors are also contributing to people not attending . Giants only got 7k for their meeting with Leeds and only 2k were at London yesterday . Problems abound I'm afraid

In addition, those Friday night games that a couple have mentioned of course were in Winter where we regularly froze our buts off but we didn't care, it would have to be pretty serious for us not to go.

Fax had such a good following to away games as well that we were one of the first clubs who would be asked to take part in any sevens tournaments such as at Central Park etc because of how many would turn up in blue and white.
Do the RFL really see what has happened to us in the last few years, part of which is down to their miss management of the game.

Tragic to say the least.

AM I RIGHT? I'M NOT WRONG!

Re: Taxi to the shay : Sun Jun 30, 2013 1:29 pm
Can't understand why there's so much head scratching as to why crowds are falling. The answer is obvious ...... "'Cos it costs fifteen quid to watch". You got change out of a fiver in the early 90s and since then, wages haven't trebled and the cost of a pint hasn't changed much. There'll always be a supporters "churn" - folk losing interest but being replaced by "new" supporters. But the cost of attending is putting off those "new" supporters. For fifteen quid you can have 8 pints in The George and when you have a footie match like Man U v Chelsea thrown in on the big screen, you can understand why folk choose to stay where they are rather than file down the Shay come 2.45, especially if there's a mis-match versus Barrow.

Clubs can't just sit back and do nothing, hoping that one day the "missing" will return and stump up the cash. It won't happen. What to do? God knows. Maybe offer a £5 voucher for attending the next game, a fiver discount for season ticket holders who attend away games, or even a free pie and pint to show for your entrance money (people take notice if they think they're getting summat for nowt). I'm afraid RL has got ahead of itself in terms of offering value for money entertainment, and there's so much alternative cheaper stuff to do.

And Behold, a pale horse. And on his back his name was death.

The weekend starts on a Monday.

I'm sorry Charlie it's not, it does however over look the right side of the Pennines, in fact I am looking out from your room now, the moors are full of sheep, (what size wellingtons do you take) and the sun is just going down towards Oldham, after all, we've had it for 12 hours so Lancashire can have it for one.
Your room is tastefully decorated, Mrs Halifaxjohn has obtained a few pictures of Ena Sharples and George Formby to make you feel at home . Your room is well aired and warm, the barmy Yorkshire air, and the tropical wind ensure that.
Mrs Halifaxjohn is so thoughtfull, in the other four bedrooms exclusively booked by the entire Seagull supporters, she has placed a picture of Halifaxjohn and three darts.

FAILURE ISN'T ABOUT FALLING DOWN, FAILURE IS STAYING DOWN..........

Re: Taxi to the shay : Tue Jul 16, 2013 11:49 pm
In my daily Groupon e-mail for cut price deals, i was interested to note in today's Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants tickets for august 9th advertised at a reduction of 62% with two tix for £16 or four tix for £29. Now that's got to be a bargain in anyone's language surely. But, Wigan going down the cheap tix route, hmmmmmmm......

Exactly. I remember standing on the terraces at Thrum Hall as a young lad and it was packed to the rafters, I also remember going to 2nd team games and there been more people there than we now get for 1st team games. I also remember watching us in the 2nd division and still getting 6k to some games. To have a go at the few Sheffield fans there is that watch them every week seems a bit strange when it looks like we have a problem right on our door step.

On the game itself I can only see a pretty easy Sheffield victory as Leigh look quite ordinary and that victory would let Sheffield join us as the most successful team in this division when it comes to major trophies, at least until the GF this year.

Sure i can remember a game you had in the late 80s at thrum hall against hull KR in the 2nd div and there was over 9k there

Problem is, have these fans gone forever?

I know more than a few that don't and wont go regularly now because of the way the game has been run in recent years.

that and the price. I used to stand on the terraces at Thrum Hall with a crowd of 10-12. Now its a hardcore group of 4-5.

of all the older generation supporters that I used to stand with, none now attend games.
