Would you like Leigh to become a feeder club to Wigan because that's how it would be in a NRL set up.

Myself. No I would not like to see an NRL structure, because that is and has been an integral part of the game on another continent.

We are not the NRL and as stated our history and foundations are completely different.

Just as different countries playing the same sport, say football for example their infrastructure varies massively.
To suggest or try or change the game to be set up and run the same way in all of them would be unreasonable and unworkable.

Part of the problem is almost an obsession with what is happening in Australia when we should be focussing on what is happening here.

The SL clubs should be able to produce a good number of quality players from within and if they can't how will a feeder club especially on reduced funding be able to do so?
If the clubs outside SL slowly fade away there won't be any clubs to feed anyone and then SL will be on it's own.

Its not SL clubs who produce the players.It's the community clubs that do that.If they dont make the grade in an academy they end up in lower tiers or leave the game. We are following the same structure as NRL we just have different leagues,you choose either to ignore that,or pretend it's not happening.

How would Leigh be a feeder club? Lower tiers would feed the SL.

Mergers could be of benefit to clubs.

Quite. You wouldn't even have a Leigh so they wouldn't be a feeder club.

So you are saying we are following the same structure just different leagues?
Really!!
When was the last time any club outside the top flight in Australia moved into the top flight, never.
When will the next club do so, never.
If we had the same structure as the NRL Leigh would be a feeder club because they would still be in the lower tiers.
Just because at this point in time Leigh are in SL remember they weren't when it was formed and would have never been part of it following the NRL model.
You can choose to ignore that or pretend it didn't happen.

Well how did that work out, ignore or pretend again and by all means suggest to the Leigh faithful that you merge with Wigan.
I don't care how many clubs are in SL, just don't fund any additions by taking money from the Championship or the other lower divisions.

Any odd number is daft. It means one team not playing every week.

RL in the Northern Hemisphere isn't the force that it is in Australia & New Zealand, albeit we've had one or two memorable games against them with the GB team. It's a part-time sport here, that's been catapulted into a full-time arena mainly due to money from Sky.

The Wigan dominance at the end of the millennium was down to cash, and if we're honest, the glory years of Aussie-Fax were down to money as well.

No easy answer, but imo the game needs to live within its means and stop this expansionist bonkers. The game in the UK lives near to the M62 (and the M6), and although there are good offshoots elsewhere in the country, none of them (other than the Broncos) have ever made a decent fist of competing. Catalans another exception, although we're playing in the same competition as them very soon!

What I hate most, is folk saying that we don't have enough players for a quality top division. To me, quality is indeed about skill levels, but also about having a relatively level playing field (sic). Look what they do in the US to make sure that there's no Super Bowl dominance year on year! Exciting games are all about two fairly equal teams giving their all to win. It's true that skill can make things better for TV (such as Ryan Hall earlier today), but for true supporters of any team it's more about effort and commitment (which includes not making daft mistakes or having brain farts!).

I can't speak for Derek as he is only following the leaders so to speak. But I will say without Sly we have no game,with Sly the game is dying.

BT were never in the running - there's only pie in the sky theories that they might have been interested from some who believe the Sky deal was poor. If they really had been interested, and especially if they had put an offer on the table, do you honestly think they (and others) would have kept quiet about it? The problem is, despite you and I believing that RL is TGG the vast majority of the UK population aren't that interested in it as 120 years of history shows.
