There is actually no stipulation on time for kicking at goal. The only rule says
SECTION 13 Penalty Kick
5. No Delay - No player shall deliberately take any action which is likely to delay the taking of a penalty kick.
Should the kickers side infringe then:
6. If the kick is not taken as stated or if a player of the infringes kicker’s team infringes, a scrum shall be formed at the mark, provided it is no closer than twenty metres to the touch line.
However the ref has a duty to not allow time to be lost. The only thing that covers the time taken is that the ref can stop the clock if he feels the kicker has taken enough time to do his job. The rough rule is a minute but is not set in stone. It could be ten seconds if the kicker chooses to throw the ball away from his point rather then set up the kick.
However woodcock didn't break any rules, the ref just applied the laws.
Okay okay its in the rules then but come on it is not what the speccies want to see is it, think about this -
Sheffield scored eight goal kicks so at the 1 minute per kick rule which it must have been all of that per kick yesterday then there was 8 minutes out of the 80 just for them.
EIGHT MINUTES for goodness sake stood watching some guy stand looking at a rugby ball then deciding to kick it at bl**dy goal!
Great entertainment that was for £14.
not.

How many times did the ref stop the clock ? I didn't count, but if he did, then it's added onto the 80 mins surely ???
I think you're being harsh on the ref and harsh on Woodcock TBH.

I think he stopped it for most if not all kicks but didn't seem to do it straight away. It was all about rubbing it in and getting us miffed and nothing else.
Hope without planning is about as futile as waiting for a harvest without planting

Ah but the whistleblowers are more eager to stop the clock with a drop out under the sticks, than for kicking.
Sorry I should have said, when the team dropping out, throws the ball as far away as possible, then it passes through about six pairs of hands before being kicked. All teams do this to gain some kind of advantage.
