At the moment Matt Calland's hands are tied by the Super League franchise bid.
How can he sign quality Championship players when in 3 months time Halifax could be successful with the Super League bid and have to do the same as Widnes and start releasing the players who are not good enough for Super League and start signing Super League players.
Matt Calland should be judged when the Super League Franchise bid is sorted out.
Karl Harrison is a good Championship level Coach but has stated he does not want a full time coaching role so would be no good for a team with Super League ambitions.
My bet for the Halifax job would be somebody to take Halifax into the Super League and who can work full time Brian Noble,Barry Eaton ,Francis Cummins,Willie Poaching, John Kear,an Australian etc.

It's not about money, It can't be, Harrison takes not a penny from Batley. He said this publicly at a dinner at the Masonic Hall some months ago ( Guest appearances. Greg Austin, Mark Preston, Gary Lord, etc)

He would love the Halifax job one day he has said so.
He is employed but works for virtually nowt as its his brother in law running things at Batley.

Many people do voluntary work. I spent a summer working on a National Trust site and it was thouroughly invigorating. You get a sense of contributing - putting something back into the community. Karl is simply embracing DC's Big Society. Where better to do that than Batley.

Was this during the 2009 season when he took over from Gary Thornton in an 'advisory' capacity? If so, he may have no been receiving any wage in that role. I can assure you that he has been paid the going rate for a part-time coach in both 2010 and 2011. If you really believe that any coach at this level does no get paid then you must be a bit dim.
