Havent seen so many brain farts in 80 mins for a long time, players and coaches. Too easy to say Murrell would have made a difference, he probably wouldn't, Sheffield were up for it from the first set with a gameplan, whats frustrating is we looked to be trying, just not concentrating and making bad calls in defence and attack. Rob W had a poor game to some but he made a load of yards with the ball, he just should have passed inside and should have tackled QLT instead of standing off, Ambler also made a tonne of yards and Tonks punched above his weight as always. Leadership and organisation was very very poor though. Sheffield and the officials were not to blame. Self inflicted wound tonight, long hard looks in mirrors the cure. Dummy half was poor tonight, we moved away from what was working at the wrong times, tried short side balls when we never had the numbers to begin with. Slightly concerned that QLT and Menzie looked a good class above anything we had, some of our young lads need to turn potential into actuals, Rhinos put faith in some of them, he must be as disappointed as we are. We were unlikely to ever win the cup but to go out like that is poor for everyone connected. Massive wake up call, I feel sorry for Tonka and Ambler.
Couldn't make it last night as the lady of the house was not too well so can't comment on the game.
Am I surprised at the result, not at all, Eagles aren't Champs for nothing.
They keep producing the goods year in year out inspite of the low crowds and seeming anonimity in their own city which makes it all the more remarkable. Not bad for a fat coach and taxi size support.
By and large they still don't get the recognition they deserve from within the game and many are still surprised when they win when it matters. They have their own distinct way of playing and personality and add something that others don't, without them the comp would be less than what it is.
Fax will be having a good look at ourselves and it makes the league fixture all that more interesting in a couple of weeks time to see if we can come up with a game plan to get a result.
They have a good pack, play a structured game and have quality in Yere in QLT. They could win it again and I wouldn't begrudge them it. The sad thing about last night was if you take away the stupid errors we made we actually made good ground and got into positions, far too many mistakes and bad calls though.
Don't mind losing but not like that, brain farts and stupid school boy errors, Ambler did well and Worrincy apart from his 2 on 1 effort.
Like has been said on the banter page, Fax come up against a good team and fail to impress. So far this season we have been found wanting when we play good opposition, no point hammering swintons etc if we don't beat the big teams, hmm infact isn't that what Batley used to be like, and now we have their coach.
We have beaten the big teams. We beat Sheffield. We bitch slapped Leigh. If people thought we're going to go through the season undefeated then you were on a hiding to nothing. In previous seasons we lost silly matches against opposition we should have beaten (Featherstone themselves have lost against York). As yet we have not done this.
People, straighten your knees, they're jerking unnecessarily.
I don't understand the bitterness from some of our fans with respect to last night's loss on the field, really, to criticise the stated attendance, to state "fat coach", no fans etc etc etc really does read embarrassingly for me & I hope people regret making those comments.
First things first, call Aston what you like, but he get's his side up for the so called big games, and they're the currnet champions, he'll be laughing into his spam & double egg butty this morning no doubt, we got spanked last night. The no fans bit is all a little boring now, we're not in such good shape ourselves by recent season's comparisons looking at our home attendances, i myself have only been to one home game in the last seven for various reasons, but 1,500 average is alarming. Fev away & last night tells me that there is still the interest to follow our team for the important away games, indeed, i really wish this morning i was looking forward to London away in the challenge cup quarter finals, so if the Eagles pull that tie, the very best of luck to them and for the rest of the cup campaign, let's hope it amounts to damaging their league results a'la Fev last year & doesn't have the opposite effect in giving them improved confidence 'cos if that happens, there'll only be one winner in the other comps.
I really do think that our injuries & team selections due to the injuries are hampering what we want to do on the field and every club goes through such periods, but Sheffield looked far quicker in defence & worked our forwards over just like Fev did, they kicked better than we did, they dominated field position & at no time during the game did i feel we were good enough to win. The Worrincey incident/wrong option did cost us when they scored and we were on top at that moment but they came away & punished our error. BUT, if there hadn't been a man in support you'd simply call it a great try saving tackle. I'm not gonna slate his efforts last night, his energy should have been infectious, he worked very hard & yet again coped well with their obvious kicking plan. There's nothing to say that a pass would have guaranteed a score, but he took the wrong option fair do's. Luke was again the pick of the forwards by a long way, i'll leave it at that, but great shift last night Luke lad.
The subs bench, gameplan, interchanges etc must have been disastrous with Scott's injury on thursday night. The draw was made a couple of weeks ago, the coach's will have had the gameplan set and once sunday's game was out of the way and injuries assessed the focus intensified during the week. Any team would miss the contributions Murrell has made this season but we're gonna have to cope, so how important does a trip to Dewsbury on thursday now become ? I know my feelings but we will need to be fit & healthy to win there.
It's the performances that worry me, i can just about cope with losing. Losing to a better team like last night and at Fev hurts me to watch but we get a chance to erase last night on thursday.
Robinson & Adamson's contributions are being missed & Morro was a total wrecking ball for the reserves on thursday, I can see him getting some gametime if he's anything like fit.
Littlerich we beat Sheffield when they had not played a single game and we had played a few warm ups, and even then we struggled and only just beat them. Leigh were awful and aren't as good as people think.
Batley away we were lucky to get a draw after the last 20 minute spell. Its ok hammering lower teams but I'd like to play well and compete against the other top teams.
I can handle losing, not like last night, that was a woeful performance, we looked uncoached. Kicking out in full, knock on from 2 players fannying around deciding who will collect the ball from a kick, awful touch line kicks from penalties where the touch judge had to run backwards, players who cant pass on a 2 on 1, no speed in defence instead waiting for them to come to us, we made Sheffield look good last night.
I didn't expect us to go unbeaten, no knee jerk reaction here yet... but to not do the basics at this level is a bit poor, there professional coach players playing at a decent level. Ambler, Manning and Worrincy played well, that's it. Against Fev I could see why we got beat, their forwards hammered ours, last night we weren't dominated to that extent up front but the basic errors cost us.
Im annoyed as its a potential nice little earner for the club they have missed out on in the next round.
Was having a chat on Twitter with little rich last night and I said you can say what you want about Tubbs but he's the best coach in the competition and players want to play for him.
Good point with the crowd baiting also. I don't really care to be honest, there could be me, my old man and no one else as long as we won the game, there did look to be more than the stated figure, but whatever!
I could understand it if Fax were drawing crowds of 5k or 6k, but you're not! We've only had one crowd of <1k in the league this season, you're averaging 1.5k. Hardly anything to write home about is it?
But like I said, thoroughly unimportant. It's on the pitch that matters and we're in the hat, and I'm delighted.
We have beaten the big teams. We beat Sheffield. We bitch slapped Leigh. If people thought we're going to go through the season undefeated then you were on a hiding to nothing.
