Agree with this. In effect, you've picked Ambler and Barlow after $uperleague clubs had rejected them Sounds harsh, but that's the way it is.

Ambler was never a Fax product - he was a Leeds product but came to Fax being his hometown club.

Barlow was a product of the academy but went to Giants (i think) then went to a few champ clubs then came back.

It would nice to see players go directly from under 20s to first team (eventually).

Ambler was a Salford product who Rhino signed as a youngster when he was there. Sam Barlow and Joe Hirst both were Halifax products but Barlow was deemed a free agent by a tribunal in 2007 IIRC and was allowed to leave as a Free agent. Think Hirst managed to get the same status having refused a new contract offer and also signed for Hudds but got released about 12 months or so later. Josh Barlow at the time was on Wigans books.....

But it's not the point I was making. It says nothing about whether clubs in our division should run development teams.

Griff. You have admitted that you don't know if clubs should run development teams or not.

Could you offer a prefference or an opinion and add something to the debate, otherwise there is no point to what you are asking unless it is to wait and see what others say and then throw up a multitude of reasons why what they said wouldn't work.

Which is it them a Y or a N.

I will follow my own advice and say both options need to be adopted.

Bring as many as possible through your own systems and complement them with external signings just as many if not all the other top clubs do both here and in Aussie land.

I dunno - that's why I'm asking questions and seeking information.

Halifax look like they've brought a few players through and they're getting their costs paid by the supporters so, to be fair, it looks a no-brainer for them.

Well it is a "brainer" really.

Why.

Because Halifax are the club and the supporters, not two seperate parts.

It's a "we" rather than a "us" and "them".

The supporters have not said that the money raised by them must go on any specific item but having contributed they have trust in the BOD to use it in a responsible way on important areas.

The BOD and other members such as the coaching staff have determined to spend some of the donations on a junior setup.

I would imagine that a great deal of thought would have gone into making that choice as it could have been used in a number of important areas.

No brainer. No chance.

Ive supported Halifax nearly 30 years and to be honest I couldnt care less where our players come from as long as they are doing the business on the pitch. It wouldnt make any difference to my support if we had 17 Aussies on the pitch or 17 Halifax lads.

My impression is that it's much more common for clubs in our division to sign the kids who didn't quite make it at $uperleague development level rather than players from their own junior teams. Obviously, times have changed, and there's no transfer fee market. On top of that, travelling around is relatively easy these days and the good kids won't necessarily sign for their local side, they'll often take the best financial deal.

Sure, you can pick out examples and exceptions, so you can, but I often wonder how worthwhile junior teams are at our level. Are they just something you like to have rather than something that's actually useful.

Having said that, anyone with ambitions for $uperleague needs to have some structure below their first team. At the moment, you don't seem to need anything particularly well developed.

Overseas players more expensive ? May be true in $uperleague but not at our level.

Posted yesterday.

We sign more kids from $uperleague Academies. Therefore they must produce more kids than our development system.

If you mean the monies raised by the fans via the Supporters Trust , I don`t think this statement is altogether correct . Two or three years ago the Trust aproached the BOD and asked if they could be given a " specific project " to fundraise for in order to focus on one large thing rather than umpteen small things. The BOD asked if we would consider funding the juniors which we were only too happy to do . Our challenge was £25,000 that first season and with a massive commitment from Fax fans we easily reached our target but in actual fact it costs more than that to run a junior side but not actually sure how much more.

I agree, but wasn't the question.

Which of the available options on player recruitment / development would be the best to take on assembling the strongest team for Fax at this point in time.

Since having 17 Aussies will never happen and having 17 Halifax lads is very unlikely to happen what do we do instead to get the results.

No i wasn't meaning just the funding from the supporters trust hence the refference to supporters as opposed to supporters trust.

In all cases there will have been a lot of thought into where the money was to go, regarding the supporters trust from what was said at the time it was agreeable to all involved that it would be for juniors and what a fantastic effort the TST are doing.
