re.Finn it seems strange he's finally left at this late stage.

As has already been said on this thread 38 players into 17 don't go so something has to give. So for what is potentially 4 places in the team at half back / pivot (6, 7, 9 & 14) we had up to yesterday:
Finn, Briggs, Kain, Moore, Ellis, Flanagan, Hepworth, plus potential of the likes of Bussey, Mendeika, Teesdale, Chisholm, etc. in the wings, it just wouldn't fit. I get the impression that Finn didn't fit into the squad that JB is trying to put together, plus the fact that if we kept Finn there is always going to be a potential split of the dressing room, i.e. the Finn camp and the Moore camp. And given that Moore is the man that JB has brought in it was always going to be the case that Finn would be going.

The impression that I then get is that there was an agreement with Fax for Finn to go to Fax, but that this didn't suit Finn. Hence all the announcements in September, but now a more suitable place has been found at Cas that does suit Finn.

Hope Finn's second attempt at SL works out as did his second stint at Fev. Wish him and the other players going all the best.

So the million dollar question will it make Fev a weaker team next year. Seems reading all across the forums that there is a significant belief that Fev will not be as good next year as they have the last 4. Personally I am not a great believer in this, however I do think that Leigh, Fax have improved their squads significantly and that Sheffield will also still be as good next year as there were this year. Batley again will be strong and tough to beat. And as you look around the rest of the league the likes of Donny, Haven, Dewsbury, Crusaders have all improved their squads and will not be easy places to go and win. And therefore I believe that the league will be more even because a significant number of clubs have got better.

Will Moore be the player who is more interested in his hair do compared to tackling back as the Batley fans believe he is/will be only time will tell. Though I suspect that if he is he’ll not wear a Fev shirt for very long since as I stated above there are a number of players that will be after his starting place. Maybe it was that lack of competition at Batley than meant he was perceived to be a little lazy.

I for one can’t wait for the new season to start, because for a league of glorified friendlies (no promotion again) it is going to be a good one with a lot of ups and downs. Will Fev be top of the pile, maybe, but maybe not though I suspect we will be there or there about’s, as will a number of clubs.

And Behold, a pale horse. And on his back his name was death.

The weekend starts on a Monday.

Very good post Dave, personally I think we need a strong Fev, Leigh, Fax in this League, as you say all clubs seem to have got stronger, but will they bring more crowds to the table?
Sheffield stronger? Yes, but will bring no more to this League
I am very much looking forward to next season, excited about our new squad, looking forward to more meaning full games than last year and especially? looking forwad to seeing you, RotherhamFevFan and Jonny Depp, Bentlyman, Salfordlad and dare I say it Charlie Carolli,
Now where could you find a group like that in Super League? O'h forgot

Thanks John,

Seasons best to all you and yours.

Like you say this league needs competitive teams and wish the crowds reflected the quality of the on field entertainment.

I'm going to miss a beer at our Friendly in Jan though - I am going to be in Wales.

Yours in Sport,
Dave

Yes good post grinder and the season can't start soon enough and lets hope it's the best yet, the ingredients are there for it to be just that.

As regards a league of glorified freindlies with no p&r this weeks RL press said that it would be late January when the league structures would be discussed again.

Allegedly support of IL group seemed to be in decline but you can never tell with these things.

Come kick off time for the new season there could be plenty to be playing for if they can get it sorted out.

Faxcar,

Hope you're right.... however this is the RFL & SL so not holding my breath, but either way I can't wait for the season to start.

FAILURE ISN'T ABOUT FALLING DOWN, FAILURE IS STAYING DOWN..........

Re: Finn and Bryan released. : Sat Dec 21, 2013 6:17 pm
I think Moore will be outstanding behind Fev's pack if they're on top. If they are, it'll be his best season so far at 1st team level. I wonder if Finny has negotiated a coaching position alongside DP at Cas for when he retires from playing ? Much as I like Liam, i've thought for a couple of years his lack of pace in the Championship has been his downfall so i wonder what position DP plans to run him at in the much faster SL comp, i'm baffled that at this stage of his career he's considered good enough at that level. Good luck to him anyway, he deserves one last shot at it.

Hi MM,

I suspect he'll play at hooker in the Cas team. DP signed him as a hooker at Fev so I suspect that's where DP see's fitting in.

I doubt that.....Darryl Clark for certain and Adam Milner almost certainly wont be ousted by Finn, He just has not got the zip needed for Half back let alone Hooker....squad cover for injuries etc.....back at Fax season after....

30 in the Leigh squad deff signed with two more trailists seems we have a bug squad too. This includes some massive props, Spencer, Barlow, Wilkes, emmett and 6 others

Well, if you have a "bug" squad, you should be a bit of a pest....

I think Leigh will be Sheffield's main challengers this time around, depending on how Fax put things together against the other top four or five sides of course. The key to our season lies in how many league points we pick up AND restrict those top sides to in our fixtures.
