Swinton can score tries no doubting that. Remind me of Matt Calland team. Problem for them is their discipline and soft defense. Cant win games by just been a good attacking team also have to defend. Getting that balance right is the hard part. When Ben Heaton returns we will be more solid on right edge. Chester B still learning.

woodburn-hall as created more trys for salty than Heaton will and is a far better centre

Right hand side defence was a worry but have to consider it consisted of Murrell,a rookie centre and a disinterested DR winger.

Swinton - good runners, ill-disciplined and light in the forwards. A stronger defensive back line would have closed them out of the game much earlier - it was a shame that Murrell lost the ball over the line in the second half as that missed try could have seen them fall away in the match. I think the afters on Murrell by Dwyer all match was unacceptable and was disappointed with the way the ref continued to let it happen. On a more positive note, halifax did control their emotions and avoided a brawl on a couple of occasions - I don't think this would have been the case last year - onwards and upwards.

Re: Swinton Lions : Mon Apr 03, 2017 10:16 pm
I thought the chant of "can we play you every week" was mis-placed. Swinton are a dangerous side, and if we'd shown some of our prior ineptitude on attack this season we may have fallen short yesterday. We're maybe over-doing the Barlow thing now, but (to contradict myself), it was noticeable how often Josh seemed to be always third man into the tackle. Agree that the head high stuff needed to be dealt with, but on the whole there was nothing dangerous.

Given the provocation, I thought Fax kept pretty calm. A difficult one for the ref, and possibly we should give him credit for nothing really kicking off without the need to resort to yellow and red cards? What the crowd don't hear is a) what the players are saying to each other, and b) what the ref is saying to them.

Re: Swinton Lions : Tue Apr 04, 2017 9:31 am
Some of the posts are almost identical regarding Swinton from our board when we played them. A superb attacking side who pass the ball superbly, plenty of dummy runners, and always seem to create an overlap. However they let themselves down by then trying to upset the opposition, tapping players on the head when they score, taunting etc. If they just cut out the BS and concentrated on themselves they would have had more than 2 points IMO. Same regarding Barlow. Identical posts from our board. Always third man in with a swinging arm. It's like they and him try harder to hold the man up so he can then come in with a swinging arm to the back instead of completing the tackle.

While i'm here also thought i would mention the Low Moor train station is now open for anyone who doesn't fancy driving for the Good Friday game . Trains to and from Halifax are running on the day i believe. It's about 15 min walk up to the stadium. Handy for any of you who planning having a few beers on the day. Safe journey down.

To be fair Sharp almost caused a brawl at end and should have been sin binned.
