Bubba, are you proposing the council simply stop funding the losses by transferring the operation whilst still holding the assett that way if the cash doesn't come in the employees simply don't get paid or would you expect the council to underwrite shortfalls?

The two clubs do fail to meet the running costs of the stadium hence the council subsidy! The two clubs shouldnt be relied on though to meet the running costs of the stadium which is the key point. Other revenue streams need to be met and from discussions with the council there is a degree of frustration that these havent been explored since the East Stand was completed such as moving council departments into the available office space within the stand.

Private ownership is the best option if anybody wants to see the potential future income of the stadium filter out of the Shay into the back pocket of A N Other individual. Wouldnt the ideal scenario be to find a solution where income can be maximised and redistributed back into the facilities where everyone can benefit?

I have absolutely no problem in having certain income streams from the stadium go to a private individual if they invest the money to make the facilities truly profitable. Neither club is in a position to do so therefore the stadium is just sitting empty 90% of the time. What other option is there? How is a public group going to get a few million to make offices/shops etc?

And why is that a problem exactly? As long as the stadium has such things as the pitch properly sorted, toilets and other facilities in a clean and healthy state that are fit for the modern world, why should a individual or group not profit from it?

Wouldnt the ideal scenario be to find a solution where income can be maximised and redistributed back into the facilities where everyone can benefit?

Its OK saying in an ideal scenario but sadly we live in the reality, not an ideal world/utopia. The Council has shown that it cant maximise or redistribute income back into the facilities where everyone can benefit. In fact, the Council has turned members of the community away from using the community stadium known as The Shay. Maybe you or one of your friends should ask the Council how it intends to keep The Shay up to standard and pay for repairs when its so deep in debt. Its OK the Council, Football fans, Some expert saying The Shay should not be owned by an individual or Group. But maybe they can explain where the money is going to come from for the Council to spend on repairs to the stadium (Roof, Terracing , Seating and Toilet repairs for example are needed in the next couple of years) and pitch in the next few years? We already have seen the Council break promises and cut corners regarding The Shay that seen both Clubs forced to call of games costing them money.

And if you can answer the above in a realistic achievable way then you should be running your own company called.

Was having a report conducted by a organisation that specialises in helping people build better ways to work through co-operative partnership (where everyone is inclusive) such a terrible idea? The report was never going to be "The Solution" it was purely going to provide a potential base for future discussions in finding a way forward that suits the council, the two clubs and the Calderdale community.

Dave Boyle met with Cllr Tim Swift, Stephen Baines and Janet Battye as leaders of the three leading parties. Also present in the meeting with the Council Leader was Gary Byrnes – Sports Services Manager at Calderdale Council and Ian Gray – Economy & Environment Director at Calderdale Council. Dave also met with Steve Duncan of Community Foundation for Calderdale and my father.

As for your opinion on what is in the report, that is based on your own agenda (as are most other comments on here) which is fair enough. I understand how frustrating it is for HRLFC and some supporters given that Tony Abbott's potential purchase fell through but HTST remain positive that private ownership is not an option and believe the Council agree.

What a surprise for as usual you make presumptions based on YOUR own agenda and do not give any recognition of what others say. I have an open mind on the Shay and being honest feel a Stadium Company is the best solution but whether this is 'private' or a 'social enterprise' I am not sure as the SST was not a good example of how to run things and yes a private owner can have higher risks. So do not put words in my mouth Gavin.
The thing you and your report miss out is that the Shay is an asset worth at least £2 million so the Council taxpayers of Calderdale will want to see a very solid reason why this should be transferred to a third party for nothing. The Council should be the ones doing this not a small group of Halifax Town fans namely the HTST.

Oh and Gavin IF the Shay is transferred to a 'not for profit' organisation (which is a good principle I must add) where will money to invest in facilities to create extra income streams come from you???

Yer I want a stadium run by a stadium company who will reinvest in the facilities if they can make it work and actually make a profit? I see no answers to my questions as usual Gavin just have a stab at me or suggest I am some anti Christ?
it is you who will not be honest with us all and say that YOU want to see the stadium run like before = SST and maybe you getting involved???

We have very similar agendas then. Maybe just different opinions on how we get there.
