Just because "anyone could've got this money but it just happened to be Leigh" doesn't make it right.
Leigh are already getting the biggest wedge in the division and now they're getting anoth £½m.
Let's put it is perspective. Leigh are getting about ten times more central funding than Barrow.
Why ?
Griff,I totally agree that it is not right, and agree it gives Leigh a big advantage, but I bet there are no Clubs in the whole of the RFL,who would refuse such a donation, it would be crazy,I like to think I'm a fair Fan, but to me if you are Saints, Wigan, Toronto, Fax, Swinton, York , or Coventry Bears you wouldn't refuse the cash. Again you are probably right about Barrow and the amount of funding they receive less than Leigh, you ask Why?The answer is Leigh by finishing bottom of SL last year effectively finished 12th in Rugby League, making our funding higher than Barrows. I'm not sure what the funding was but the previous season Fax in reality finished higher than Leigh, and received more Funding than Leigh, Fax however chose to spend their funding in other ways than Leigh did,and it showed in the Final Table last year. Each Club chooses to spend their funding allocation how they see fit.Stay Happy.

So you don't think it's right, you're a fair fan but you'd take it anyway.

Yes Charlie, but a payment of this type to give any club a big advantage in an open fair competion should not be allowed in the first place. The payment was intended to give some security to players and others who were under threat of losing their jobs due to being relegated. Is there anything in Rugby league these days that isn't being missused and corrupted.
Even then there's a glaring contradiction in that the players and coaching staff of a relegated club get finacial protection for what amounts to not being good enough to safe guard there own jobs so someone else should pick up the tab. Jukes as been bleating on about how unfair this is ever since Leigh went down, well he coached the side to relegation, if it was anyone else that isn't good enough at their job they would be dimissed with jack all.

OK.
Of course I would take it,I may be a Clown , but I'm not crazy, all the great teams , players,Coaches in any sport would accept an edge if it was offered to them,Legally of course, even yer own Tubbs would accept one, let's be real,if the Eagles were offered half a million quid , Mr Aston would say No thanks.Really?

How do you reconcile that with being a "fair fan" ?
Not that that's the point. The point is that the differential between top and bottom was far too high even before your extra £½m.

Faxy, I agree with you,it may not be ethically right, but as they say, You don't look a gift horse in the mouth. In my opinion Jukesy failed last year and should have walked or been told to leave , as a lot of players were, however he's still here and now we as Leigh fans must baCK him,for me a thing less than a top 2 finish will be failure this season, we have recited well in my opinion, and as I said previously we received a bigger Central Funding because of our League position, as did Fax the previous year, your management chose to spend it on Jnr development and other things, we have chosen a big recruitment drive this year, but had no choice after the amount of players we lost. We will have to see the outcome as the season unfolds,FWIW, I think Fax will have a decent season.

I reconcile being a fair fan, by acknowledging the half a million may not be right,Leigh didn't ask for this windfall, you didn't answer my question about whether either Tubbs or your good self would accept such a windfall if it fell in your lap?

Not looking a ethically incorrect gift horse in the mouth can, in some circumstances, get you jailed.
I wouldn't recommend it as a general principle of life.
Griff we ALL know in certain circumstances this principle in life can get you jailed which is why I said Legally, myself personally I have never had any form of criminal record in my life, but again I would accept a gift of whatever amount given to me if it was Legal, and so would most RFL Chairmen if it came their way.
