Well after reading all the postings and mulling things over about the game and so
........ One cannot fault the effort of either team. No one drops the ball deliberately but at times both sides looked rusty and disjointed. The game may not have been the most enthralling but big hits and some good drives. However our halves seem to work to the system and never appear to "read" what is on.
We have been spoilt for many seasons with some very special 9s so lets give the incumbents a chance to bed in.
KH loves his dependable wingers and with this type of player out wide you wont gift many tries. But rugby league sells itself as the exciting running code with wingers that can finish and get chances to show they can. How many passes do our wingers get in space?
When Karl came i hoped that he could meld the team spirit of his time at Batley with our flair and turn us into the top team in the competition. However he soon showed his ideas as Callands team dismantled to be replaced by a team of props and should be props. Heaton on the wing! ok he is not a creative centre but never a solution as a winger. Didnt we sign him as a FB and how many games has he played there?
I will support as i have for 50 years , will cheer groan and moan but i do despair of our lack of creative moves. We play like Bamfords team of yore when every one in the crowd knew what was coming next the difference being we only pass to the first receiver or turn it back inside . I could defend that! To be beaten by a break from an ex player completing one of our old FB down the middle plays made me pull out my hair and dream of some of the plays , planned and off the cuff, we have had the pleasure of seeing.
So come on, i guess i am saying keep faith, hope for better days but if we continue in this mould for rest of season a change of direction will be required next year.
PS I thought Batley , though limited, played pretty well and just about desrved the win. They played a winger who can run 90 yards.
