Not criticising thought or the effort made by Fax , but it might be time to look and see what if any benifits being on TV the clubs in the Championships actually get

We are halfway through our 3 rd year of TV coverage on thursday nights , in peoples opinion has being on TV been a success

From a financial point of view , ie have the clubs been able to draw better sponsorship deals because of it ?

Has being on TV improved awareness in our towns and resulted in bigger crowds both for the televised matches and other games ?

Should it continue as a live programme on a thursday or would a highlights show on say a monday night be better for the clubs ?

Well got to agree to a certain extent , I think there is a substantial amount to the club if your lucky enough to be able to get your grass painted for sponsorship purposes. But the few hundred free tickets we get from Sky do not compensate no.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

I thought the tickets were paid for by the Co-oP as part of their sponsorship , ie it is tied into the TV deal , that is what I was led to believe

The deal being sorted when we were originally given TV coverage as a no cash deal from SKy then the Co-oP stepped in with a £ 4,000 per match but you have to give out 4 grands worth of freebies

Now if there is some money from the Co-oP as prize money as well i dont know

As for the paiting the grass thing , thats the first I've ever heard of that Linda :?

Well yes the tickets do come from the Co-op but we only get them from being on Sky is what I meant.Would they give us anything if the Sky cameras were not there ? I doubt it as the RFL were going to give away the matches in our division and Sky steped in to Sponsor.I do believe Sky give the prize money as well for the winning team at the end of the season. Is it not £100,000 ?
I think they are still geting a good deal out of the Championship sides especialy when you hear Stevo say that in his opnion the matches played on Thursday are far better than the Super League matches .When he was at the Halifax lunch a couple of weeks back he said it was hard to commentate on matches sometime when it was 5 drives and a kick all the time.He thought the Championship matches were more exciting (that was before the Fax /Donny game mind)
The Sponsor money for the painting of the grass ? I was told you do get money for that but some clubs cannot have it done ,some groundsmen won`t allow it if they share with soccer they cut the grass shorter and the paint bleeds into the ground and takes ages to get out wheras if the grass is long they can just cut it off.I am not sure if that is true but I was told this by someone who should know and I have no reason to disbelieve it.

A quote from last weekends edition of Game On!:

"From the eight Co-operative Championship games that have appeared on Sky Sports this season, six of the clubs have reported their highest attendance figures of their 2009 campaign"

I would have to look at those fixtures to see if that was relevant

I'd guess that Widnes v Leigh and Leigh v Widnes would be those clubs biggest attendances in any normal season

At the moment i'd expect Fev v Fax to be thier biggest gate as well

Haven v Widnes before they have played Leigh [ have Fax played up at the rec yet in the league ? ] would also draw a big [ relative to this league ] attendance , also have they played Barrow yet

Point being that a lot of the matches are local derbies quite simply because they are the most attractive games

So while that statistic is a positive it needs to be looked at realistically

Yes I know but that is not really relevant , the attendance was also less that the one they got against Widnes on the TV

So was it the TV that brought more people to the match or is it that Widnes are a bigger draw than you ?

Wouldnt say we only brought 250... if thats correct, then your fans must be really fickle as your crowds have been:

Fev v Donny 1577
Fev v Fax 2673
Fev v Eagles 1612
Fev v Haven 1555

This would tend to say that Fax did in fact bring far more than you suggest.

only 1,535 there tonight.....Leigh didnt appear to have travelled in droves so would seem that we were correct.... hmmmm

Yes we struggled to fill the supporters coach tonight and our travelling support was down on the past without doubt

As I posted earlier , are the televised matches showing their worth

Fev tried hard tonight to make a good atmosphere but 1,500 is not a positive attendance in my opinion
