toulouse. : Tue Aug 30, 2011 3:50 pm
The Rugby Football League have confirmed Toulouse's exit from the Co-operative Championship at the end of the season.

Toulouse, who are in their third season in the Championship, will return to the French domestic league in 2012 but will continue in the 2012 Northern Rail Cup and have been given automatic entry into the Challenge Cup for the next three years.

The French club, who saw their involvement as a step up to Super League, are currently bottom of the 11-team league, although they were given a three-year exemption from relegation to Championship 1.

So they dont have to abide by the Quotas or anything within the RFL rules but they can play in the NRC games and if they win no doubt would be eligiable for SL in 3 years. I see whats happening here.

won't make any difference at all if they win the NRC or if they are not successful in the LER

part of the agreement was that they would be allowed to bid for SL status next time around whatever their situation - the RFL still sees them as the next 'expansion' club from france whether you or I like it or not...

three years in the LER will give them and the RFL/FFR time to regroup

Personally I have no axe to grind about Toulouse. When you visit their club you will see that they have over 100 years of Rugby League tradition.
I hope we draw them away in both the Northern Rail and the Challenge Cup.
The only problem for them however will be the same as what made them withdraw this year. No interest in Toulouse for English Rugby League.
Their Union side atracts very large crowds and their Football team is doing very well.
Perhaps by staying in the French League with local teams and rivalry they will attract better crowds.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Not quite correct , no interest in lower tier English RL in Toulouse , just as there is little interest in French RL in England

What this experiment has shown is that people [ fans ] want local derby type games at the lower levels of the sport , we want a decent away following to help create atmosphere at the matches , we need more clubs , simple as

YOU CAN LEARN FROM THE PAST BUT NOT RELIVE IT.YOU CAN HOPE FOR THE FUTURE BUT CAN NEVER BE SURE THERE WILL BE ONE.

I have no axe to grind re` Tolouse either especialy now they are back in France but I definatly do not want to draw them away in either comp`. I want the best possible for my own club which would certainly not be trailing over there, we could do with home games and a big crowd at our own ground to showcase our Club. It`s time we looked after our own Club for a bit `cos as it has been shown noones going to do us any favours.

Yes your right, I am being very selfish, it's just that I enjoy our weekends in France, can I therefore request one away game in France then?

you are joking of course ! the potential in Toulouse & area is enormous and an SL side will attract between 5K - 10K easily depending on results & performance, just like the Catalans
this year has been a disaster because because of one man,the alleged coach who has single handedly destroyed the club - there are many reasons for this, many of which have been revealed on previous forums

TO13 has to rebuild, which it will do and plans for the redevelopment of Minimes will go ahead with future SL membership in mind.
