Did anybody go last night? The first time I’d even heard of it, was when someone mentioned it to me at the Batley game, which too short notice, so unfortunately I didn’t go.

So if you did go.....

What was it like?
And more importantly who won the awards?

I went along as it was the Starman Dinner where traditionaly it has always been when the Courier present the award to the top player of the year . It was won by Penky and it was a delight to hear him give a very stirring speach as he accepted his prize.
The awards that are given by the supporters that at one time were presented in the past at Arden Rd or the Irish Club were also handed out last night.
Like you I wasn`t aware of that either as the first team awards were supposed to be handed out at the specially arranged supporters night a couple of weeks back but it did not happen .
Still I suppose it`s better than trying to do it on the field or an empty South Stand bar straight after a match.
Penky won the Supporters trophy and the South Stand one as well so well done Penky.
The room looked quiet I have seen that particular evening much busier so maybe it could have done with pushing rather more. I also think it was a mistake combining the two awards as the Supporters night used to be on a differant night with free entry and the kit sponsors were done then as well. Now we get the two together and it just seemed to drag on forever it was going up to twelve when the awards were finished. Pete was his usual fantastic self and the players were in good humour and looking forward to the Sheffield match and they seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I was wondering that myself before I set off for the "do" but he wasn`t and probably better off not, really as it`s about Damian and the players for the moment.

The highlight of the evening was Danny Jones impersination of Paul Cullan it was spot on and so funny , Pete did super as well.

Thanks for your comments Linda - you are a nice lady, a very nice lady! Don't tell John I said that please, he's a big lad!

It was nice to see that almost all of the players attended the starman dinner. Blacky's absence was down to his partner Tiff being unwell and Jacob had farming commitments! Congratulations to Penky on winning the award. He was great during the interview and the team spirit that the lads have was there for all to see.

As you said it is a night that takes up a lot of time with presentations etc so we are trying to come up with maybe a slightly different format for next year. It's a tricky one though because the people/companies that have kindly sponsored the players should certainly get to enjoy their moment when they receive the kit.

Danny Jones was brilliant and it went down really well with the audience (his Paul Cullen impersonation). I thought the reception Bally and Dave Larder received was tremendous and I know it meant a lot to them both so many thanks to the fans who attended.

Finally, thanks to everyone who sponsored the players last year - it's a valuable source of income and much appreciated by the players and the club.

Oh and Linda, once again a massive thanks to you and your supportes trust colleagues for your efforts. It was nice to see you get such a nice reception from players and fellow fans
