Recurring dream : Sat Nov 19, 2011 7:42 pm
I keep having this recurring dream. Australia nudge quietly into a Rugby League final. England surprisingly show guts and determination to reach the same final and put on a full house. Australia sweep aside England in said final.

I've had this dream about four or five times. Is there a deeper meaning to these dreams?

Yes they is it means England Rugby League have made as much progress since the franchise system came in as a Asmatic ant with some heavy shopping in short the RFL = FAIL Lewis and Wood out and take that shocking coach Steve Mcnamara with you.

England never look like the same team in the "third match" as they do in the "second". What I mean by that is that they beat the world champs NZ with aplomb. The Aussies today made tons of mistakes and squandered many many many chances. England were gash though.

It seems to happen every freakin' year.

Australia always pull the pin in the last 20. Why have we not learnt this yet?

They say that sport is 90% mind and the rest is ability. It really does make you wonder doesn't it. Even at half time , I thought England could do it , but come the second half ,well ......... I'm a rugby fan of both codes - if anybody has been watching the Heineken cup and Munster you will know where I'm coming from. After being outplayed for long periods in both games they score last play drop goals too win both matches ; man united over the years mentally strong ; federer in tennis up to the last couple of years won matches even before he stepped on court etc etc I really think England lost that match as much in the mind as on the pitch.

I watch the NRL week in week out and take in a few SL matches on the telly. It makes me laugh when those on the VT go on about how superior SL is and this final just shows how deluded they are. I will admit the gap is closing, although only marginally. Thing is, Aussies have a winning mentality whatever they do but English RL players dont and once the going gets tough they crumble.

As for me, I will get loads of grief about the result at work on monday. Personally though nothing would have pleased me more than for the Aussies to have put 60 on England, that is how much I despise the RFL.

You have to remember that the NRL TV deal is worth $1bn AUD. The UK Sky deal is what? £60m? If that? Massive massive gulf. Massive gulf in the popularity of the sport and a massive gulf in resources, mentality, schools participation, training, pies, weather, etc..etc..

I'd like to think a lot of those mistakes were down to englands fantastic defence in the first 60 mins but as usual its the last 20 mins we can't compete with them.
