The RFL has confirmed the Co-operative Championship One clubs have agreed the promotion format for the 2012 season.

Following last year’s strategic review into the Co-operative Championships, all 10 Championship One clubs today voted in favour of having the top four promoted at the end of the 2012 Co-operative Championship One regular season. This will see the top four teams being promoted into the Championship to form an expanded 14 team division in 2013 meaning that there will be no relegation from the competition in 2012

To determine the Champions of the Co-operative Championship One season, there will be a top six play-off at the end of the campaign with the winners of the Grand Final deemed as champions.

Four new clubs will enter Championship One in 2013. Northampton were announced as one of the four last month and the other three teams will be announced once the due diligence checks are completed.

“It is an exciting time for Rugby League at Co-operative Championships level and the whole sport is looking forward to the new season ahead,” said RFL Chief Operating Officer Ralph Rimmer.

“With the positive structural changes to the season from 2013, every club will be working extremely hard to play their part in the most significant change to Rugby League since the switch to summer in 1996.

“Championship One is expected to be very competitive with every team in the division in with a chance of promotion.”

expect crusaders to do well. noticed in press that they have already sold more season tickets for this season than did in SL

Crusaders look good for promotion as do Barrow for me it will be really interesting to see how it goes.

Am I reading this wrong ........

The top 4 at the end of the season get promoted.

To decide the champions, there will be a top 6 playoff.


Am I right in thinking that if the fifth or sixth place team wins and becomes 'champions' they will miss out on promotion????

They're best just renaming the play offs and having it as a separate end of season comp like the old Premiership.

So they are going to try and dig up 3 other teams from anywhere along with Northampton.

tinker tailor the RFL have ADHD they cant leave things alone. Makes this year exciting with no promotion or relegation. Clubs at this level are small enough without adding massive journeys around the country ontop of a tiny income. Where they going to add to Northampton exactly? 3 more clubs?
I am not totally against expansion but this? no way
