Beaten comfortably by an extremely good team. Bob Beswick showed again what a top quality player he is at this level.
Rowley summed it up precisely in his post match interview when he said that what won it for them was honesty and determination, two things you can't coach. To me, that was the difference. Whilst passes will go to ground and balls will be dropped in those conditions, tackles should not be missed. To a man Leigh were determined not to let us score. On the other hand, as soon as Leigh had an attack, Tyrer's lack of commitment in defence for their first try was extremely disappointing. In the second half, Rettie's refusal to dive on the ball in the build up to their fourth try was the polar opposite of the commitment all the Leigh players had shown throughout. Those two incidents were the difference between the teams up to that stage, in what was otherwise a very close game.
It will be interesting to see how Rhino responds. When you have quality players on the sidelines, I think it sends completely the wrong message if these examples of lack of commitment to the cause (which both cost tries) are overlooked. Tyrer and Rettie should be dropped and made to fight for their places, with Patterson and Worrincy brought back in. It is then clear that only 100% commitment throughout is acceptable.
