They offered over £1m to sponsor and Stobarts got it for nil.
Perhaps one of the reasons why Betfair didn't get the deal was they disclosed their above views?

To be honest I didnt realise the RFL had turned down £1.2m potential sponsorship for no money at all and a few adverts on the side of vehicles owned by a recently franchised Super League club. That makes the whole no money main sponsorship deal even more of a nonsense. Who is making these decisions? Who are they accountable to? How can we as a game bring these people to account? No wonder Super league are 7 rounds in with no main sponsor, declining crowds, and general apathy. Now we are talking about having world club challenge games all over the world to spread the Rugby league gospel(according the Hetherington at Leeds). Stevo thinks the challenge cup is the substitute for promotion and relegation for the championship sides! What planet are these people on??????

A systematic assassination of the RFL board is what is needed

Hetherington on Boots the other night revealed what he was about.
regarding the DR process he stated he was convinced this was the right way forward to develope young players of all the divisions.

Then later in the same interview on the topic of when a Championship club player may miss out on a game so as to include a SL player he said it would only involve a few players anyway.

If it only involves a few players how can this be the best way forward for the game??

How would playing Kylie Lulai at Hunslet if they could have done helped our young players??

I would have loved to have asked how much money Leeds and their SL partners have saved through this.

On the one hand they want to save money and yet walk away from a lucrative sponsership.

This sort of double talk as if we are stupid is what really cuts with me, they can't even speak the truth and can't be trusted.

The stobarts sponsorship was just one of many crazy decisions taken and probably initiated by Wood. From naming our club "blue sox " to having coaches pick , having a challenge cup draw at the top of Emley Moor , scrapping p and r etc etc . He and the top end of the game seem to think having gimmicks and different crazy ideas are the way forward and to get publicity that will make rugby league better .

There's a funny story doing the rounds with regards to the Emley mast challenge cup draw stunt, & it's a true story too.
Ex referee Billy Thompson, Huddersfield chappie & well known on the sportsmans dinner circuit amongst other things was invited to be one of the silky bag dippers on that occassion. On the day in question, it happened to be rather poor weather conditions & things weren't exactly going to schedule & our man "Thommo" wasn't exactly comfortable with heights by his own admissions. Anyway, after much faffing about & generally falling behind time they get all the dignitaries & camera crew etc to the top of the mast via the lifts inside the monstosity of a tower when Thommo throws a spanner in the works & reveals he's left his spectacles in his car, which obviously is on the car park many metres below & he insists that he needs them to continue, so off he toddles back down in the rickety-rackety lift, enhancing & multiplying his fear of heights once again on the way down to retrieve them before making himself available again to continue in his role correctly. There was some sort of bull£hit excuse given at the time like "poor reception due to adverse weather conditions" when they were actually at the best point in the district for receiving a signal. True story.....

Anyone who's ever been in the legend Billy Thomson's company may very well be able to relate to his behaviour  lovely fellow though & fantastic referee, took no crap from anyone. Or was that the police horse escort from the pitch to dressing rooms at Odsal story ????

Knocking Betfair back I seem to remember had something to do with their gambling links.

Very moral, Foxy bingo of course has nothing to with this sort of enterprise.

Eyes down and off we go for another full house of idiots.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
