Started poorly, but got results.
Then everything clicked for a while, to my mind when Handforth went into acting half and we played up the middle getting on rolls and bullying sides, that then created tired opposition for Thacks and Murrell to run riot.
We seem to have lost our way.
But....
Were still top of the league, albeit precariously, we know we can play and its all still to play for.
Still short of a bit of quality though, Sheffield and Featherstone have shown us that. Can some of our younger lads and supposed big names step up and grasp the opportunity Fax and Rhino have given them and make names for themselves etc. We have one player who keeps linking himself with SL clubs but is lucky to be making our side spilling ball and scuffling every other week, the soft underbelly and brain farts need to disappear quickly.
Tonka and Murrell are the stand outs for me, these two are going to have drag the rest up a level.

Like I say in the other thread I think we are just a couple of players away from been a top notch team.

The season on the whole has been pretty good and I really havnt seen us play a team where I have thought they are far better than us and we couldnt beat them. On our day we can beat any team.

A few points to add.

Hopefully we don't get any long term injuries especially in the props, Ambler and Tonks would be really missed.

Losing Robbo took a little away from our go forward and Adamson was just about getting some form and fitness which is very frustrating for him and the club.

If we can get Morro back on the field will give us a big lift, again no injuries permitting.

The number 9 spot still remains unresolved for me.

Craig Ashall allthough he will play there is clearly not happy or at his best in that slot and the others who have played the odd game there have not had a great deal of impact.

We have the option of moving Tiger there and Murrell to 6 which when we are playing any other than the best sides gives us that attacking threat that produces a lot of points but it can be double edged.

The draw back is against the stronger sides who defend better then it is less productive with ball in hand and gives them a point of attack.

Fev for example after the first 25 mins or so picked him out defending that left hand edge and exploited his lack of pace by bringing Hepworth on and having him run at him and doing him on the outside.

Brierley blew him away straight from the scrum base at the Shay when we played against Leigh and i'm sure this will be played upon by the better sides and coaches.

Whatever happens this year and thinking of recruitment and improvement a specialist quality number 9 would be high on the list if there is one available.

Still a lot to play for and a lot to learn before the seasons over.

Not bad so far some good efforts by the lads scraping wins early doors then winning big but met our match against Fev and Sheffield we will know how good or bad we really are when we play at Sheffield in the league, lose again and that will tell us we are still behind them, Fev at home will also tell us where we are.
Thought Ben Heaton did well last night but what has gone wrong with Fieldhouse he has gone right off the boil? Agree we need a quality hooker and a centre that can pass and go round players not just run at them like the 3 we have at the moment!

Had this question been asked on the 21st April the response would have been a resounding wow!

All teams hit blips. We're still top of the table and we have Sheffield and Fev still to play. It is still in our hands. It is May, there are 5 months left and two trophies still up for grabs.

Season so far? Bloody fantastic if you ask me!!

Yes, I do agree, But, would have liked to just go one round more, see if we could have got a SL side at the Shay with a good crowd.
I'm sure rich as an accountant you would agree from a financial perspective and from a supporters point of view it would have been nice wouldn't it.
But it's not to be, so lets get over it and start again on Thursday.

forgeting that we have a big centre who is yet to play for us and is well known for running at them and straight on over them.

On the need for the centre Im really starting to think that Ben Heaton looks the part in the centre roll so are we saying this centre is going to replace Tyrer? Look at the way Heaton handled Yere the other night, he did a really good job on him and Yere looked unable to handle him in defence.
