Repair work on the north stand at the Shay has now been completed and it has increased the ground capacity to over 10,000.

would be great to see it full at some point :)

Can someone explain to me why the capacity is still only 10,300? I seem to remember it being stated as over 12,00 with all stands available.

How come the Shay is only allowed 10,300 yet Castleford's ground has a capacity of 11,750 when it's totally inferior to the Shay in every respect?

Back in the day, the north stands capacity could be increased by hiring in extra bogs. Maybe the number of facilities available is still an issue.

Also, with bigger crowds you need more stewards ect.

I'd also expect that when a stadium is insured, the maximum capacity is stated as part of that. 10k is what is expected in SL licensing (as was), so provided that number isn't lifted it'll be fine. If someone decided that 12k was to be the minimum, which would be laughable at many clubs, then with a few small changes and a chat with the insurance company it could probably be sorted fairly quick.

Wakefield holds 12000. And it's tiny. Our Council have always been funny with ground safety. Maybe Wakefield MDC doesn't have many blame claims in the district.

I can only think that the North Stand needs a further toilet block to complement the New one and all broken turnstiles need overhauling to ease overcrowding before entry. I am led to believe only 3 operative turnstiles are in use in the Skircoat Stand for example.
Nowadays, the only time we will need more than 10,300 is if Man Utd play their 1st XI in an FA cup game against FC Town.

Good to see that something has been done.

As regards Fax it's chicken and the egg.

We need the bigger crowds to progress and if we did they would increase both from home and away.

Problem is unless we progress will we get the bigger crowds, not as the trend is at the moment but at least the potential is there.

As said before next season will probably be the most important since we came down from SL and if we can salvage something from this year and make some good signings to improve the team then the spirits will be given a much needed lift.

I hope this is so, the ground needs a business man in charge that will start to run it as a business as at the moment it is vastly underused . I hope he starts to have other sorts of events eg pop concerts and then start to fill the empty spaces around the place . What I can`t understand either is how bad does the empty space look that is next to our shop ? There are bags of cement and stuff all laying about it casts a poor impression , on queerying this one time I was told it was the Towns shop and offices so one wonders why they havn`t moved into them as it seems such a shame to let a prime spot such as that left empty. If it`s not wanted by them it could be let to someone else and generate some money surely.
I have been following the reaction from Town fans on their message board these last few days and it`s now up to 8/9 pages and makes for not very pleasant reading (not that I expected anything else mind )
I wish Tony Abbot all the very best if he is the one puting the bid in and then maybe more than just rugby and fooball supporters of the semi professional sides may get to use the facility a bit more.

This is good news and credit to the Council for putting the cash in to sort out the North Stand and make other improvements around the place, I think it would easily accomodate 12,000 if ever needed.
I also think that a well run stadium company will be good for both clubs and would make more use of the stadium.
