 Everyone will remember hearing the news the day Halifax born Danny Jones had passed away, just three months ago, on 3rd May. The atmosphere in the Halifax RLFC banqueting suite was completely rocked and celebrations were stopped abruptly, as a wave of silence hit the room. A member of the Rugby League community since his first ever game at Ovenden, who had played impressively at an International level for Wales and spent years in our colours, Danny had touched so many peoples hearts, and he was one of us. The Halifax RLFC Board of Directors commented, "The Halifax Club was always going to play its part in supporting his family, but we took time to work out the format for the day which could excite the most interest, and we believe that we have found it." This October, countless well-known members of the Rugby League family will run out on to the Shay pitch, to be a part of the most significant charity game the Stadium has ever seen. ALL proceeds from the day will go directly to the Danny Jones Fund, to support his family at such a difficult time. To celebrate the launch of the event, Lizzie Jones, and twins Phoebe & Bobby will lead the teams out at our next home game, V Superleague's Salford Red Devils, on Saturday 5th September. "The board wanted to do something special for Lizzie and the twins" Wembley winner and all-round Halifax legend, Mick Scott will coach the Halifax select 13's, and Robbie Hunter Paul will be captaining the World side. Liam Finn, Bobby Goulding, Lee Paterson, Bob Beswick and Mark Calderwood are some of the names taking to the stage on Sunday 11th October, where the teams will take part in a four-part game of non-contact Rugby. The ticket price is £10 for adults and £5 for concessions/juniors. The Club have chosen non-contact specifically so that Rugby League celebrities far and wide can take part, and the game will not impact on that player's current Club; be it Superleague or any other competition. This decision has created a unique opportunity, where you can play a professional game of Rugby League where your heroes are passing to you! That's right, for just £5 you can buy a raffle ticket for the draw, where 4 names will be pulled out of the hat and in to the squads. Even better, you get to pick which team you play in!
