This news is a disaster for Rugby League. I well remember the days when York, like Oldham, would bring big followings to Thrum Hall. Sadly those days are long gone and teams like ourselves are plodding along in front of much reduced crowds. There are many reasons for it but the lack of promotion/relegation has a lot to do with it. SL is deemed to be the be all and end all of our game and sod the rest of us. It's time we got back to basics and got the game thriving in its heartlands instead of far flung places such as Toulouse and Toronto. Mind you big Nige would miss out on his jolly jaunts around the world and that would never do, would it?

Watching York at the old Clarence St ground was one of my favourite days out. Time for the inept RFL to realise that it is not all about Pooper League and support teams like York & in Cumbria instead of pie in the sky ego schemes.

Are York iconic enough to save ?

Mick , as you say a trip to Clarence St was always a good experience, although I enjoyed Huntington Stadium , coupled with a trip to the Knaves mire, happy days.

Where were they at when it was Rydale York?
I remember one night watching Dave Watson run riot against us and Eddie Riddlesdon been run down by a prop in the same game.

I think When York were Ryedale York , they played at another venue , isn't Rye dale a suburb of York?

They is a Shame when a club gets into financial trouble.

With crowds of around 500 and very little other income they could never Cover the costs of coach/squad and all the other fees involved unless their BOD paid for them to survive.

So many clubs are facing this tightrope and I am really concerned that outside of SL we may see others follow. Whilst this is nothing new, I hope that Fax are not going to fall into this trap again with the potential loss of income from this season and our poor balance sheet

This is the one I was thinking about Ian, taken form Wiki.

Notice who they were playing and what the attendance was for a match in January A division 2 match to boot.

Wiki Quote."Gary Stephens became coach in 1988. Huntington/Ryedale Stadium's record attendance for a rugby league match was set on 5 January 1990 when 4,977 turned up to watch a division two match against Halifax."

How different things are now for both clubs.
