I have never understood how they have lasted so long. I hope they survive in some form, rugby league doesn't need clubs to fold, but even now they are talking up the future without a realistic assessment of what the next steps should be.

Whilst I have criticised our BOD we at least appear to have not over spent to this degree

And Behold, a pale horse. And on his back his name was death.

The weekend starts on a Monday.

Re: Sad News The Eagles : Sat Aug 20, 2016 9:10 am
I have in the past been very criticle of the Eagles perhaps unfairly.
Most of my criticism is around their desire to please their sponsors rather than the paying public by playing on a Friday evening inconveniencing oposing players and supporters.
However if they can sort that out and find a permanent home I hope they can survive.
Good luck to Griff and his fellow taxi passengers.

It's a shame when any club has these situations but with regard to Sheffield it really is hard to have much sympathy. Going full time with a fan base in the few hundreds, virtually no away support, playing in a field by the motorway and treating visiting supporters with contempt, Owlerton Stadium was a joke, was never going to work. I support having League in Sheffield, as opposed to Toronto  for example, but it needs to be done correctly and not with special favours from Red Hall to the detriment of clubs like ours. Play the game on an even basis and I'm sure we would all welcome a Sheffield club in the league. HJ excepted perhaps.

As I understand it,the games were played on a Friday night at the behest of the University Sports Park people.

Otherwise, the sponsors would have wanted Friday night games at Doncaster and at Owlerton.

I don't think the sponsors have been very well served this year - particularly when the away kit didn't arrive for a long time.Plus,of course, the lack of merchandise sales.

The Friday evening kick-offs also inconvenienced our own supporters.

The

Proves my point.
However not sure the trip from surrounding areas of Sheffield compares with the M62 and M1

No, as I said Pete, play at a time that doesn't involve a trip on the M62 and M1 at rush hour with people having to leave work early, find a decent stadium, which to be fair they never have had, and I would welcome a team in Sheffield.

Sheffield Eagles - Back to Back National Champions 2012 and 2013 !!

Ach - it'll be grand. Don't you worry. :thumb:

We play Fridays because the stadium has other customers on Sundays. We got away with Sundays for the last two games but for the two September games we can't have use of the dressing rooms as early as we would like.

I've said this before. This fixture plan doesn't help ground sharers (of which there are now many). The first part of the season soccer's already made their bookings. Then for the end of the season, guess what, soccer's already made their bookings because our fixtures don't come out till the end of July. :FRUSRATED:
