Today v Oldham : Sun Sep 04, 2016 4:35 pm
I think Ben Heaton reads the game well on the wing.
Rawsthorne looks class, and will be a good player. Hope we do have him on loan next year with a full time super league fitness regimen behind him.

Didn't work for Johnson in the halves Today.

Sharp was error free Today, which was good to see.
Tangata ran hard and strong. Consistent player.
Still, on Today's performance, major improvement needed if we are to win the trophy.
Some players on good contracts going through the motions Today.

Oldham were actually very poor Today. They wouldnt have Posted a point against a pumped up side.

Betting tip: Sheffield to lift the Trophy.

Top 3 today.

Rawsthorne
Heaton
Murrell (game management final 20)

Re: Today v Oldham : Sun Sep 04, 2016 5:02 pm
Agree with your MoM candidates. Rawsthorne looks a class above, and Ben H drove in hard and was in the right place to take his tries. Scott didn't do a lot with the ball (nice try at the end though) but he's the leader on the park, and it was only when he came back on in the last 20 minutes that we got out of 2nd gear.

Sharp tried hard, but not quite error free (dropped the ball for their first try) and was a bit disappointed with his chase back when Oldham intercepted for their 2nd (?) try.

I think possibly RM is playing Tangata for too long (was he on for the full 80 today?). He needs to have a rest at some point so he can come back on firing on all cylinders.

We have a few new players in the team now, some of whom look quite useful. The problem we have trying them all out is that we do (understandably) come unstuck at times because they're not all used to playing with each other. This is exacerbated by being a part-time team. I'm not criticising, I think it's good to get these players on the field, but we won't see the best of them until we have some sort of consistency on the teamsheet.

Btw, about Oldham not scoring a point against a "pumped up" side, I agree. We gifted them all three tries.

The first was a dropped ball right under our posts, the second was an interception from a telegraphed pass, and the third was yet another soft try straight from dummy half on our line. Mistakes are made, and these sort of tries will always crop up now and again, but we've done it far too often this season.

Regarding the comment about Tangata, he was out there for the full 80. So what! He played well and towards the end of the game when Oldham were tiering he smashed them apart. He stil looked very fast, alert and strong. I would love a team of players who can play 80 min and still be so strong at then end of the game.
It was the usual struggle but we pulled away at the end. For me that was a decent performance. A few bits as always need looking at. End of the season, various players know they are leaving. Well done Fax. It was a good move to rest Murrel. We played well when he was off then when he came back on after a rest we moved up a gear.
I know many of you will be saying Oldham were a rubbish team but we are middle of the road too (not slagging us off, just reality ). Well done boys.

In what sense? He played a part in all but 2 of our tries and created 2 breaks that should have lead to tries. He wont boom a ball 60 yards for a 40/20 but his short kicking game was superb. If I were a coach I would be happy that my half back had done all that.

Seconded on Rat. Thought Luke Nelmes showed up well and Bennion ran hard. Happy with the result

It certainly wasn't a criticism of Adam, he had a fine game. I just wonder if he could be even more effective with a break mid-game? Oldham really tired towards the end of the game today, and Adam's fitness is admirable that he was still able to play with such intensity without a break. If we had 16 other players on the pitch with his fitness, ability and attitude, we'd be up there with Leigh!

Btw, I don't think Oldham are rubbish. They play some good rugby, but at a level a little below that needed to be serious challengers in the Championship.

GFB you must be johnnos dad!. So he created murrels try, kicked thru for tangata, slipped the pass out for Heaton did he. And as for his kicking game he kicked it away several times before the last tackle. I thought both him and Moore were fairly ineffective. And I l think today proved in the modern game murrell is no loose forward. So hopefully puts that idea to bed!
