Whitehaven game : Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:35 am
I only managed to see the second half thanks to BBC streaming, therefore all the hard work had been done at 6 - 24.I was hoping to see 'Fax open up and romp home to a larger score line, alas things never go as one would like.
To my mind 'Fax were lack lustre and too predictable, having read over the past few weeks about the expansive game and flying wingers , both had to come inside looking for the ball, (is 'haven a narrow pitch?), it was a dry track albeit looking like a cow pasture, ( thanking the gods no turned ankles).
No disrespect to 'haven but a better attack would have put us to the sword, although we did defend our line well, 3 sets in succession at one point, and gave away silly penalties yielding good ground too often.
People will say ; you can only play what is in front of you, and they brought us down to their level, we were blooding youngsters, not a settled team, yes, yes, yes, but the ethos and structure should have been there with enough experience on the field at any one time.
However the records will show a win and a place in the next round, maybe hope for Swinton at home, then a big draw swell the coffers some more.
Well done to RM and his team (so far this year) ' Fax have surprised a few, let's hope it keeps on upward and forwards .
My humble opinion only of course.
