My Humble Opinion Only - let the knockers begin.

Part quote from The Beggars Littany by John Taylor circa 16C

Whitehaven game : Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:35 am
I only managed to see the second half thanks to BBC streaming, therefore all the hard work had been done at 6 - 24.
I was hoping to see 'Fax open up and romp home to a larger score line, alas things never go as one would like.
To my mind 'Fax were lack lustre and too predictable, having read over the past few weeks about the expansive game and flying wingers , both had to come inside looking for the ball, (is 'haven a narrow pitch?), it was a dry track albeit looking like a cow pasture, ( thanking the gods no turned ankles).
No disrespect to 'haven but a better attack would have put us to the sword, although we did defend our line well, 3 sets in succession at one point, and gave away silly penalties yielding good ground too often.
People will say ; you can only play what is in front of you, and they brought us down to their level, we were blooding youngsters, not a settled team, yes, yes, yes, but the ethos and structure should have been there with enough experience on the field at any one time.
However the records will show a win and a place in the next round, maybe hope for Swinton at home, then a big draw swell the coffers some more.

Well done to RM and his team (so far this year) ' Fax have surprised a few, let's hope it keeps on upward and forwards .

My humble opinion only of course.

We never looked in danger of losing that game. We always looked like we could step up a gear if required. In that respect was impressed. Haven only breached our line from two kicks one of which been fortuitous.
Well done to Fax and RM. We are in hat for next round and that's all we can ask as supporters. :thumb:

Re: Whitehaven game : Mon Apr 24, 2017 8:38 am
Not sure what people were expecting to be honest. We won at a canter and has as been said a lucky kick and then another kick for the 2nd was the only way they breached us. We are defending really, really well at he moment no matter who is put in front of us and if we continue to do that we will do well this season. It gave us chance to have a look at our youngsters in a competitive game and they stood up well and also allowed us the luxury of taking Murrell off early to give JWH a run at half. Lets see what the next round brings us but next up Batley which is a massive game and a bit of a 4 pointer.

Mr, T hall, GFB, not sure what I was expecting, as my chances to see 'Fax live happen very infrequently, I know what I was hoping for' but in reality could 'Fax have put 60 points on the board and if they did would it boost confidence?
It will be interesting to see RM's p o v, maybe he takes it as good defending practice to have to do what they did under 'sustained' pressure and yes to keep them to only 2 tries in a game was a good effort and not to be sniffed at, a few weeks ago it might have been a different outcome.
As has been mentioned a win and through to next round,

I thought that with the changes made we produced a solid display and got the win. Just look at the Giants result, you may think that you have a strong enough team out on the pitch but they still have to perform, our lads did just that so a good result all round.

Well done, onwards and upwards.

TFIA I know where you are coming from, but I thought it was a great result as it could have been a potential banana skin. I agree with GFB that our defence has really tightened up. Last year we were shipping tries all over but at the moment we are looking really good in D. I have seen other views that want to see expansive high scoring rugby, but my view is that if you don't concede then you only have to score once! They got theirs through kicks so it is an area that RM will have to work on.

All in all I thought it was a good job well done. Nice to see Ben Kaye going 80 yards for his 2 tries as well

I'm liking the Kaye/Moore rotate,be interesting to see if RM goes back in for AOB at any point.

A good professional job well done. It wasn't spectacular but it didn't need to be. I would have taken a one point win before K.O. Up The Fax. :thumb:

Re: Whitehaven game : Mon Apr 24, 2017 7:45 pm
Excellent exposure for the club, and it didn't cost 3.99 to watch for a much larger audience.

Our pack has really stood up since Batley. I sincerely hope we put the Batley ghost to rest this weekend and show how far we have come.

Saltys try in the first half with the ball from JWH was a peach, and two lads that came into the pack showed real promise.

Special mention to Ryan Boyle, what a solid forward he's become, he's really knuckled down and bought into what Fax are trying to do.

If we can turn Batley over at the weekend I wonder how Dane will feel, I may feel a little sorry for him, because he owes us nowt and may have been poorly advised.
