Whilst watching BBC the other afternoon I saw part of the interview with 'Sonny' Bill Williams. I am sure I heard the presenter say before the video SBW and his 5.5 million $ contract to Wolfpack for 2 years.
Did I head correctly?
If so how can Wolfpack not be breaking the salary cap? or are they exempt from any rules, such as Wigan or Bradford were a few years ago (allegedly).

Salary Cap next season is £2mln but there are “dispensations”

The key dispensations are:
- Marquee Player – Each Super League and Championship Club is permitted to have two Marquee Players whose Salary Cap Value is limited to £150,000 (or £75,000 if Club Trained).

- Club Trained Dispensation – Each Super League Club is given up to £100,000 of dispensation for producing Super League standard players.

- Player Welfare Dispensation – Each Super League Club that achieves the player welfare target is given a £15,000 dispensation.

- New Talent Pool Dispensation – Any Player who has not previously played Rugby League is given a value of £0 in the first year of his contract and at 50% of his true value in the second year.

- Returning Talent Pool Dispensation – Any Player who has not previously played Rugby League in the 5 years prior to signing is given a value of 50% of his true value in the first year of his contract and 75% of his true value in the second year.

- International Bonuses – Bonuses paid for international representation are excluded up to specified maximums.

- Educational Fees paid directly by Clubs are excluded.

- Prize Money – Payments made out of prize money are excluded.

And if they can afford him, let them have him. RL needs some good publicity and big names in the sport. And Toronto seem to be the only ones doing this, and to attract the biggest name in either code is fantastic.

I agree, there should be no negativity about this, get on the bandwagon and enjoy the ride, or drive up and down the M62 while it lasts.

I know it makes no difference but why is it all written up for Superleague teams? It should cover all the 3 professional leagues. What if a big money man/woman came in for championship or Champ1. Would they not be aloud to spend there money on players they want.

Whilst not wishing to comment on the rights or wrongs the salary cap in the Championship is set differently.

In the Championship it is £2m or 50% of turnover whichever is the lower.

Can I add that one reason some clubs outside Super League have issues with this is that The Championship and League 1 Salary Caps are measured retrospectively: this means that each Club must demonstrate at the end of each Season that its actual spend over the course of the Season was below the Salary Cap.

So if your tight on turnover with a couple of games to go it can get messy.
