[quote="Prince Buster"].

Castleford probably count the 3 wards of Castleford,Whitwood and Airedale to get to the 40,000.

Not quite right there. There is no such ward as Castleford ward. The three wards that make up Castleford are the latter two you named plus Glasshoughton ward, which are all of course part of Castleford. However a small part of the Whitwood ward does not count towards the population figure as it is in Normanton and thus counts towards that towns population. I know full well because my niece works with the governmental dept that deals with boundaries, censuses and populations.

I used to live in the Whitwood ward and lived only 600 yards from Carlton St i.e. the centre of Cas. I now live in the Glasshoughton ward and am about 250 yards away. Whitwood, Airedale and Glasshoughton are of course as very much a part of Castleford as Headingley is to Leeds. In fact there closer to the centre of Cas than Headingley is to the centre of Leeds.

Danny Boy is also right. Due to developments the town has grown a bit and is growing. My niece told me that the latest population figure for Cas is 43,500 plus. By the way that is Castleford not including outlying areas, most of which though are Cas supporting areas.

I do agree with Prince Buster on one thing though. What I class as Wakey I would have thought was more than the 76,000 quoted.

A bit late with my two-pennorth on this but I've been busy...
Broadly good news although I must admit I'm just a tad confused with the apparent closure on the design brief and the fact that it's ..er.. a draft:

The Tigers new stadium project has taken another important step forward in turning its plans into reality with the completion of a detailed draft design brief, including a schedule of the facilities to be included in the new stadium

The statement then goes on to say...

The club will be meeting with Waystone and Wakefield MDC representatives in the next few weeks to discuss and finalise the documents.

... so we've got a completed document that has to be, er, finalised with the developer and the council. Okaaaay... :shock:

My cynicism about the wording aside, however, it is as I said broadly good news. I suspect the truth of it is that all parties have actually agreed the 'stuff' they want at the site (one gym, two squash courts, etc) but not yet agreed the fine tuned version. These talks over the next few weeks will presumably bash that out, but it does seem at least that the club are confident enough with the brief as it stands o start inviting bids from architects...

We will be providing each [firm of architects] with a copy of the design brief and asking them to provide an outline plan for us to consider, and ultimately select a firm to move forward with

Even though it's the only one I can pick from this statement, it's still a pretty significant step forward, so good news. The sooner the architect is appointed the better because the timescale is starting to look a bit tight now. Shouldn't be a problem, because "being built" as late as early 2011 would still (I think) be good enough, and we're well ahead of that (twenty-)eleventh hour.

It'd still be quite nice to get a bladdy move on though... :wink:

I was just thinking that myself, but then it is a school night so they won't be up too late :lol:

I just can't wait for the ground to go up, we'll never hear from them again :lol:

I'm going to start a thread this time next year canvassing who we'd like to play first in the new stadium :wink:

i think this is great news and the most positive of all is the fact that we have people like david poulter involved, poulter wouldnt waist his time if he didnt think the project was going to happen and he has the expertise to make it happen.
