Donald’s new deal a boost for Rhinos
28th March 2008
Flying winger Scott Donald has given Leeds Rhinos a massive boost ahead of tonight’s crunch trip to St Helens, by agreeing a one-year contract extension. Donald has scored 53 tries in 74 appearances for Leeds and has not missed a game since joining the club from Manly before the start of the 2006 season. The Aussie, who would have been out of contract in the autumn, has touched down 10 times this year and is the club’s leading tryscorer. “Myself and my family are really happy in Leeds and we are looking forward to the future,” he said. “The club is going in the right direction and I want to be part of it. It is nice to have the support of the fans and that is what makes this such a great club to play for.” Coach Brian McClennan described Donald as “the best finisher in Super League”. He added: “He showed that with the try he got for the club in the Carnegie World Club Challenge. In big games he knows how to get over the tryline, including his great try in the Grand Final, but his awareness in defence is first class and he has an excellent kick return. In our opinion he is the number one winger in Super League and off the field he is a first class guy too. The players and coaches have a lot of respect for him as a player and a man and we are delighted he has agreed a contract extension for 2009.”
It says nothing about going home in there.
