| Said on sky that Sean Wane spoke to Richard Silverwood at half time to ask what Wigan needed to do to stop giving away penalties. Eddie commented on whether that is allowed.
Anyone know if it is?

| If the rules of our game were clear, and not so much down to ref interpretation and how they decide to referee that day, teams would know and wouldn't need to ask the referee.
All too often it depends on if the ref get's out the wrong side of bed.
If steve ganson has a bad nights sleep, you get a game with 30 penalties and 5 sin binnings.
I dont blame them for asking, it's a joke.

| Typical Wigan talking to the referee at half time.
Has any other coach from any other club ever done this?
Disgraceful.

| I've no problem with it. In fact one of the issues I have with refereeing at the moment, especially with Steve Ganson, is the lack of explanation to players about offences and how to avoid them.
The referee should be looking to give as few a penalties as possible but punish every offence, this can only be achieved through talking to players.
It should be done on the field though rather than in the changing rooms.

The referee shouldn't have to advise any player on what he is doing right or wrong, that is the managers job. It's why we've now got the ridiculous situation of defenders sprawling all over attackers whilst looking round at the ref waiting for him to tell them when to climb off. If players aren't getting back ten yards or not standing square etc just penalise them, they'll soon get the message. Most players know when they are committing an offence, most forward passes are intentional and players should be penalised for such blatant offences.

Agree with the first part but not the bit about forward passes. It's not rocket science, if they're getting pinged for being offside, I'm sure it doesn't take a a conversation with the referee to work out where what they need to change!

| If it's done in the right way, then absolutely no problem as far as I'm concerned.
I would have thought the answer to the question as phrased here would tend to be prety obvious, but even so, no issue with coaches getting a bit of feedback.

| There should be no need to talk to the referee at half-time and the practice should be outlawed immediately by the RFL. Yes even for Wigan.
Coaches are sat there watching the game. They can see exactly what the problem is and rectify it themselves by addrerssing their players during the break - not the referee.

| Many, many years ago, the referee came into our dressing room before a game to explain the recent changes in rules and what he would and wouldnt allow. He finished off with the line "and by the way, my parents are married" I know I shouldnt have but couldnt resist asking "Is that to each other?" I received a stern look from him as he walked out and then got absolutely nothing on the pitch!
and how many "Sirs" did Lee Briers get in yesterday?

It was a very amusing little cameo. We had Tomkins whinging and stropping all through his talking to then the old pro comes up for his tongue lashing and shows how it's done.

In't amateur game, nobody is allowed in the referees room during the game, or in the 30 minutes prior to or after the game. I guess these rules are either the same or ever stricter for the pro game.

| According to BBC Manc the allegation is a made-up steaming pile of Sky excrement, that has been denied by both the RFL and Wigan.

| AFAIK there's nothing against it in the operational rules, providing the referee is happy to have the conversation. If the match officials don't want to have a discussion with coaches or players they can just ask them to go away. If they refuse to do so, it then becomes misconduct.
