No it's not. You can scale down training to give the players more rest and give less attention to preparing for a game.

Exactly. The team can't suddenly say 'we've been playing rubbish for weeks now, but it's August so we'll start to play well now ready for the GF'. It just doesn't work that way and anyone on the message board who thinks that form will automatically return towards the end of the season may be in for a massive shock.
