Michael Mancienne was selected for England. That is enough evidence for me, that an England call up does not mean you are a world class player.
I'll take the improved Man Utd performances and trophy wins since Carrick joined and strengthened United thank you very much.
Hargreaves had a fantastic season last year, unfortunately injuries have ruined his season this year.
There's a reason Gareth Barry is playing in an average 5th / 6th place side and not United, Arsenal or Chelsea and that's because he aint good enough. And IMO it would not be an improvement to a Liverpool squad, which with a couple of decent wingers would compete for the PL title more often.

Leeds are still the best team in the competition so if we do have to play them I would hope it's at Knowsley Road with home advantage giving us a chance to knock them out. If somehow we end up playing them at Old Trafford I can only see one outcome back to back to back to back

I agree he wont add strength.
The reason Barry is playing at Villa is because the role he has is taken up by Essien, Fabrigas, Carrick/Hargreaves and Villa dont need any cash so can put what price tag they want, im sure if they were in debt and a £10m offer came in he'd be gone.
my point was though if the later are worth £25m or £26m then Barry is worth £20m
but still i'd rather keep Alonso for the extra years service you'd be getting and i think he's better too
