It’s OK looking at Watson or Ward, but managing Leeds is completely different to their current clubs. It doesn’t necessarily follow that because they’ve done a good job with limited resources they’ll do an even better one with greater resources.
I’m not saying either wouldn’t be an upgrade on what we have, but are they title winning material? It’s all a risk.
Wane would be here already if Leeds were interested. I suspect he’s too dominant a figure to work alongside KS.
Smith has been here and done that. I’ll always be a fan of his but possibly too much water under that bridge? Don’t know.
Your standout options would be a Bennett or Bellamy. But we all know that Aussie coaches prefer to come over here to make their career not break it once they’re already established. Even then, Bennett is a hell of a politician and intrigue follows him - players love him but he can be a divisive old sod.
Furner had held the top job and gone back around to assistant coaching again, and I suspect that’s his level and he’ll go back there again. An up-and-coming assistant NRL club coach is probably the right fit IMO - but yes it is still risky.
Head coach for Leeds is a very tricky appointment with our recent history plus the expectations. It needs to be the right fit for our stage of evolution as a squad as well as the right fit for our football structure behind the scenes.
