There are more than 20 coaches out there that are better than Agar, available and (the key one) want to come to Leeds? I personally don’t think it’s as simple as just go out and get one as you suggest.

Are you seriously saying Leeds aren't capable of being an attractive opportunity to a top level coach?

Yes Josh, of course there is. Look at the point Furner was sacked, Sinfield came out and said they had already had 30 enquiries about taking the job, but wanted to ensure they got the right man, and therefore said they would not entertain any enquiries until then.

Who had really heard of Holbrook before he came to Saints? Not many will have heard of Price either, yet both occupy top two in the league. Then we have better coaches over here than Agar, again I am not convinced they will be winners either, but would still put up a bigger challenge. Appointing a new and improved coach is much easier than made out. Making us winners is where it becomes less easier.

I am saying I think after Furner, there’ll certainly be a few Aussie coaches that may have been on our radar which no longer fancy the risk.

Great. If that’s the case I agree with you. I didn’t realise there were 30 coaches applying for the job.

But essentially We agree on the same thing, we both don’t think agar is up to it. We just have different view on time scales. If like you say there are 30 coaches that have applied then yes let’s make a move, there must be the right man in there. All I was saying was, this appointment is massive and needs to be the right one.

I genuinely do not believe for one second that the club think Agar is right to take them forward, or Agar himself for that matter. I think it is all about money. He was already employed, and they have utilised that cost to save on additional coach cost. The playing rosta, taking up more cash than probably originally thought. They are now risking the future on the basis of money IMO, not because they see the appointment as a success.

Yeah I can buy into that.

Originally I thought agar wouldn’t want the job, a coaches job doesn’t always last long in this era, however his original role at the club could be security for him for years, why would he want to give that up

I dont think you could be further from the truth there Gotcha. In the clubs opinion Agar is a very good coach.

The club arent actively looking at the moment for a coach. An opportunity came up to speak to someone 2 week ago and Sinfield had a very informal chat with that person who expressed he really wants the job, but this came out of the blue and wasnt from an approach by Leeds.

Sinny has stated for months now that it will be reviewed at the end of the season and is therefore very non-committal at this stage. Super League survival has been the priority and rightly so.

Its Agars job to lose as it has been from the start in my opinion. As I said the club believe he is a good coach. If the club think he will be accepted by the fans I believe he will get the job full time but that is the concern for the powers that be.

Agar has asked for no distractions and that is how it is.

From what I have been told the only 2 options being looked at right now are the 2 I've mentioned but it will all be reviewed at the end of the season.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Agar came to the club for a specific role - who is now undertaking that role given he is now heading up the coaching?

In truth Sal, and in fairness to Agar, he still attends most of the 19s and 16s games home and away as he did previously so I presume he is doing that role also. However I dont know that for certain.

"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Re: New Head Coach - who's it going to be? : Sun Aug 18, 2019 10:50 am
This stuff "all about the money" is incredible BS. Leeds have shown themselves willing to spend huge amounts of cash this season and will again for the right coach.

However if, as the club believes, this is a multi-year turnaround project, you need a club-building coach, not a top of the league coach. A Brian McClennan-type coach would be a disaster in this scenario whereas an Agar-style coach may be the right pick for a couple of years.
