That said, I'd be interested in Rohan's take on the importance of a dominant pack. I've heard him criticise and praise our attack, same with our goal line defence. But he seems to say little about metres made or conceded which seems odd, given we've seemingly struggled on both counts at times. I'm curious whether his non mention of these areas stems from it simply being an area which he feels he can do little about given the players he has, or whether he's simply not wedded to the orthodoxy of a strong pack being essential to success..
I get the feeling Smith is a bit unorthodox in how he views the game and his tactics.
Look at how we’re defending, we’re not using much line speed, so it often looks like were being rolled over.
I think he’s knocked back a few questions on stats in his pressers pretty much saying there is only one stat that matters.
I think he realises we need a stronger pack but I don’t think it’s essential to how he thinks about the game.
