Totally agree and that is the major issue. If you swap out those two players for two good performing alternatives it changes things completely. It is just really poor recruitment and retention on those two players. Imagine Paasi and Satae instead of prior and Tetevano and suddenly your team and the dynamic looks totally different.

It will take another 12-24 months to get completely on top of the recruitment and retention but Smith seems to have made massive strides already so I am happy with the direction of travel.

Hardaker is clearly one of our better players, but its time we played hardball over contracts, including length. We're cutting out a lot of dead wood this year and in 2024 we'll need some more big moves as well. Losing Hardaker would be a blow but if we are to keep improving we can't end up with players contracted for too long again, especially over 30. Myler was another one given a year too long before Smith arrived.

2 years at his age should be a given for a player of his quality.
why leeds are playing hardball with him I dont know

I agree 2 years for Hardaker is a must and once again showed why we need him in the team.
Same for Myler who along with Martin and Oledzki were probably our best players yesterday.

Newman not likely to play until March April, so with Sutcliffe gone, we currently look like starting the season with no first or second l choice centres. We are also stuck with crock walker.
We must keep Hardaker and with Edwards/Simpson given a go until Newman back, also the kid we signed from wigan is he centre /back row.

I can only assume RS doesn't see Zak as being as indispensable as some fans do. If there is a centre incoming, there'd be zero logic to that signing if he wasn't seen as an upgrade, otherwise why not just give the gig to Zak? Equally I get the competing for fullback argument but realistically any improvement over Myler ain't going to be massive. Reading between, I reckon leeds would like him to sign for one while they evaluate Newman's long term recovery whereas Zak, probably rightly, knows he could do better elsewhere.

I'd have Zak at full back and myler fighting for a place in the halves
