Spent many an hour in there - in fact once we when in there in the summer of '87 and left in the Sping of '96.

My personal favourite is The Three Horseshoes.

A quality pint for about £2 and really good food, also it's usually dead and has very few students in.

Woodies is a very sterile Greene King effort and packed full of students regardless of time of year in my experience. I was in there on a Saturday and it wasn't even term time and in came loads of idiots from the home counties dressed as super heroes Big TV with Sky Sports, pool table, dart board and a toilet that floods all the time.

Thats the only thing that I recognise from your description, The Woodman's toilets have always flooded, my abiding memory of Christmas 1974 is the Gents toilet floor totally submersed under one inch of gents wee-wee and the carpet outside gradually soaking it up from under the door.

I don't suppose there's still a thin old bald headed dateless bloke behind the bar called Les is there - he'd be about 110 by now ?

That'll be the toilets where Alex Murphy dropped his comb in the urinal; fished it out; gave it a quick rinse and carried on combing his locks.

Only went in Woodies once. I'd spent the swealtering afternoon swimming in hot chicken entrails (which smell like Satan's worst vindaloo dump) for an animal physiology practical. They did a "happy hour" type deal of 4 pints for a pound. So sitting there with my mates (each with 4 pints infront of us), we all take a sip and non of us can taste anything but chicken entrails. We left, and left the beer. Never went back.
