I agree an Austin

Roberts would also be a massive step down in salary (not that i want him to sign)

I'd only give him 1 year. he seems to be getting more injuries and they will only get worse as he gets older

I don't think we've got much choice unless we're going to go out and sign two quality half backs. Clearly Roberts would not be one of them. I'm all for having a long term strategy, but building it around 18 year old Jack Sinfield is one that is fraught with risk. He needs to spend some time out on loan at Championship club to aid his development and for the coaching staff to gauge his ability at a higher level. In the meantime GH and co need to focus on bringing some genuine quality into the first team for next season. At the moment the signs are not encouraging.

It's a tricky one. It's wise that we don't want to get stuck with too many ageing players on big money for too long, as has happened a fair bit over the last few years, but if the alternative is a significant downgrade in quality then we may just be better biting the bullet and offering Austin an extra year.

I'd personally wouldn't mind if the club offered Austin a 2 year extension like other have said be too hard to replace him & Sezer in one off season and don't know if we could realistically upgrade on him within the club or bringing someone else in. On his day he's a top draw halfback he's strong when he takes the line on and have a good range of kicking in his game when he uses it.

I swear when we first signed Austin though he came out publicly and said he's only happy to sign 1 year deals at the back end of his career now we've offered him a 1 Yr extension he now wants 2?

Yes I remember him saying hes happy with 1 year deals, maybe its just his agent trying to get him more money

Agree about Sinfield who in my mind is a 7. I think McCormack could be special but still very young and a long way to go before can play 6 at SL level.

I know plenty on here don’t like sezer and I accept he goes missing a bit but no halfback can do much when trapped in their own end of the pitch for long periods. His passing is superb and he has a lot of class for mine. I don’t know if he wants out but to try to build some continuity in the spine I’d be happy to keep him for another year.
He also defends very well.
I appreciate him Austin and Myler are over 30 and there is talk of us signing a full back. I want more pace in the team but do not want Myler playing at 7 next season.

How we transition 1,6 and 7 in next few years will be key.
