Wow, while I agree that Segeyaro is perhaps not a world beater, I find it hard to believe anyone who watches and understands the game believes a hookers job is just to 'pick it up and pass'
You have to pass accurately and with speed, organise, be enough of a threat to tie in markers, as well as a mobile tackler in the middle capable of tackling the big boys. They also pretty much touch the ball ever play.
In my opinion it is the position that requires the most well rounded player on the pitch, and is very close to being the most important in the modern game.
You only have to ask forwards what a difference a hooker makes, or look at the poor service when Watkins got in at dummy half in the recent England game, or look at what a difference it made to Leeds last year.
A good hooker is vital.
