The term is offensive both to the reciprient and to outside observers (the previous posters and in this case me). For an example of how poorly this term is looked at please see the error Lego made: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/33079474/lego-apologises-for-window-licker-toy The same can be said for the term "Mong" - again a derogatory term to belittle intelligence; HOWEVER, you expanded the term to "Mongrel". You were referring to Segyaro and have also referenced Albert Kelly. In this sense the term "Mongrel" can be interpreted as a racist remark as both individuals are of aboriginal descent. In the ugly history of racism, “mongrel” has been used to demean couples of different ethnicities and children of mixed race. The use of mongrel also invokes another nasty word, miscegenation, which is a derogatory term for couples of mixed race who marry and have kids. If you were in front of me accused of casual racisim and discrimination toward percieved intelligence I would uphold the case and I would seek to be following a path of suitable resolution. Please refrain from using offensive language and terminology on our board. You mean like calling people ' special ' ? Try the urban dictionary for meaning |
