Seems he is unlikely to play this year. Whilst I really feel for him on a mental side given what he’s been through, players simply have to be available more often than not or it makes no sense to have them in the squad. Stevie Ward has a bit more credit in the bank but needs an injury free run.

Halfway through the season and neither Ablett or Crosby have made an appearance. Get them deregistered for this season and free up cap space for a halfback.

I'd have no problem with swapping Merrin for Maloney. Sorting Tui out is a different kettle of fish because whilst he might be a high earner nobody will want him. Merrin might be happy enough going back to Aus and we are desperate for a halfback. Maloney might not be in great form this year but he's a class act in attack and would not lack confidence in getting the team organised. Whilst he's generally regarded as a poor defender he's less likely to be as well targeted in SL and in any event couldn't be as bad as Tui in that regard either.

the reason I mentioned Merrin as a swap is for both cap and quota reasons. I wouldn't have thought we could sign someone like Maloney for this year otherwise?
