Coming back to interview others over here looks very much like it won't be an Australian coach. Who are the candidates over here? I dread to think.

But Chris the club knew a few week before Agar stepped down where this was potentially going. His press conferences told everyone there was a chance he was on the verge. Certainly the week between Hull and Salford games the whole club knew exactly what would happen if we lost.

Surely GH was sounding people out to see where the interest was? I suspect he didnt.

Between Agar officially going and Gary stepping on a plane it was 2 weeks thats fine and understandable. Why didnt he interview the "European" candidates in that time? I just dont understand it. Especially knowing the busy Easter schedule was fast approaching.

Its just appears symptomatic of the club at the minute. A lack of urgency on the pitch and just the same off it.

The issue with going to Australia, as I said at the time, the salary difference between NRL and SL now and GH's lack of modern day contacts. Hes getting old now, he cant go on forever. This to me is further evidence of it.

Surely he knew if there was genuine interest in the job from Australia before boarding? Surely he had discussed the details of the job before packing his budgie smugglers in his Louis Vuitton suitcase?

Lets not forget hes telling kids the club is so skint it cant afford to pay them and then jaunts off on what looks a whim and prayer, all expenses paid trip to Australia. Which looks a waste of time snd money.

To be going into Easter with JJB in charge is not ideal. But this is what Gary wanted, this is what he created by pushing people out of the door. Go on Gary you sort this mess out.

Most of that is speculation (I don’t know a lot about the kids situation)

The fact is this is an immensely important appointment it isn’t and never was going to happen within a few weeks.

You say his trip to Australia was a waste of time, what’s that based on? Surely he should explore all options before making an appointment, his job is far more important than satisfying some fans with a rushed appointment.

You nor I haven’t got a clue what’s gone on in Australia, who he’s interviewed and wether anyone was the right choice. Things like this take time and consideration, GH literally cannot win here with some fans.

It doesn’t very much look like that at all, when filling an important role you look at all options before making a decision.

I'd imagine that had a great fit been found it'd be case closed. Who are the UK candidates, John Kear?

Has anyone on here ever had to recruit and interview people?

It’s time consuming even if it isn’t this high profile or candidates are in Australia.

Honestly i think some of you are going way OTT with this GH looks ridiculous thing.

If anyone thought a new coach would be in place 3 weeks after Agar resigned (remember he wasn’t sacked which is a big difference) they were in cloud cuckoo land.

100% agree that this was always going to take a few weeks and that potentially the right candidate may not be available until the start of next season. In the real world If i interview somebody for a managerial position I have to accept that they will not be available to start until they have served notice with their current employer. Also their contractual demands may be beyond what the company can afford to pay so sometimes you have to move on to the next best candidate. Considering all of this I would have expected that all uk based options had been interwiewed or initial discussions taken place prior to GH leaving for Australia. The ongoing commentary is not helpful to anybody especially people currently in other jobs. I am sure Tony Smith and Mags are in a difficult position after GH saying he was interviewing candidates in UK on his return. The aticking point with the NRL based coaches may be if they can bring in their own coaching staff or have to accept whats all ready in place. The only statement that should have been made was that we were interviewing candidates in the uk and Australia to secure the best man for the job. The whole thing is a mess and while my own preference would be for a coach with no connection to the club I think that they will be saddled with the baggage of current management team and this will rule out a lot of the Aussies. Based on the above I would expect it to be either Carr or the Smith/Maguire combination as they would probably accept keeping JJB and Walker etc.Sadly I think it will be the cheapest viable option! Alternatively there is always John Kear! We missed out on some potential home based candidates by letting the Agar situation who never really wanted the role drag on. Watson is a great coach and has transformed the giants and could have been a contender for the Leeds job.

You might imagine that but it doesn’t mean it’s reality. Ive done interviews where ive gone back to offer the job to the first candidate I interviewed with weeks in between.

Given the continual shower of sht handing of the club, you can understand the pessimism Christopher. I only hope we're pleasantly surprised.

Why didnt he interview European candidates prior to going?

It wasnt speculation that the club knew Agar would go if we lost at Salford. They was informed that week. 2 week prior "i wont flog a dead horse" a week later "i need to ask players if i am right man". Wasnt we sounding people out during that time?

I don’t know why he didn’t, maybe he did sound them out and arrange the interviews for when he got back.

Regards the Australian candidates don’t people realise it’s not as simple as him going over and bringing someone back, there’s a whole load of things to consider, the person will have a family to consider, Visas to consider and they may already be in employment.

The candidates over here also may be currently employed.

People are wanting a quick fix to a difficult situation.

I totally get the frustration but i think some of you aren’t looking at the practicalities of the situation.

I 100% understand the pessimism, but as I say I think people aren't being realistic in the timeframes or the complexity of the appointment.
